I think that many basic video support functions would not really affect the audio features and capabilities.

As far as video 'bogging down' mediamonkey, perhaps attempting to provide dynamically generated 'preview thumbnails' would take more resources, however this should be optional if it were to be implemented.

In any case, I think people's fear that video capabilties will make MM worse, are at best misguided, and at worst will cause MM to be less popular and powerful than if video were to be embraced.

Isn't that what Itunes does? I've never used Itunes for my library but I have not heard good things about it.

Well, yes, iTunes does do all of it, but I simply can't tolerate the program for managing music (naturally, I use MM for that!). I use iTunes only out of necessity to transfer videos and podcasts to my iPod Classic.

So, I meant to say that it would be great if /when MM3 is the one application I could use to do all of it, rather than using iTunes alone or two separate programs.

I understand everyone's need/desire to have an integrated program, but I have yet to use one in the many years I have been using computers where an integrated system works very well with all the features that it offers. But that is neither here nor there because with or without video, MM will have to drastically change for me to discontinue using it. Either way from what I have observed about the developers since I've been using MM, whatever they offer they will give it their best effort to ensure it meets the needs of as many of their users as they can, and what they fall short on the scripters and skinners will fill in the voids.

I totally agree with jabremer66 (because I also use ITunes only for transfering videos and posdcast) to the IPod Classic.

The fact is not to get an "integrated" program that do anything (and everything wrong), but just avoid to use TWO programs for managing ONE device !

More precisely, the aim isn't to "extend" MM functionalities to other domains (e.g. viewing or editing video), but only support functionality like getting a video posdcast from the web and store it at the right way on the device (the settlements already exist in MM because podcast subscription is already managed - but only in audio -).

And concerning films and video clips, Itunes manages them like audio files (that is Apple pretends in the documentation) and I guess the difference migjt be "just" related to some internal flags... (said as it, that seems to be easy, but I'm almost sure that Apple didn't provide enought technical documentation around this functionalities !)

Meanwhile, continue to do your great job even it is just "limited" to audio files management.

I would never use MM as a video player/organizer, but I certainly wouldn't have them stop developing it. :P

You don't want it to add video, don't monitor the directories in which you store the videos. ;)

What a great thread topic.

For me, video should be plug in or add on. My use is mainly audio - and I'd like to see futher advances in library and tagging intelligence, smart playlists format support - maybe some basic manipulation....although I think it has most of those covered pretty well.

However - one of the major reasons I choose MM (which, let be honest, is on the complex end of the scale for music players - with a UI thats grown quite busy) is the PODCAST and MEDIA Device synching.

Now, while I use this exclusively for audio - I can fully understand those that like to snatch VODcasts for their PSP or other Video PMP.

It's not for me, but I think this is where the market is heading.

PS: Mods and Devs : I use the board a lot but never bothered to register. I just want to take this opportunity to say I can't wait to send 30 bucks or so for this class leading piece of software (in 3.0) . Mostly for its performance and quality - but partly for sharing the development, bug by bug, so openly. Thanks !

Ok Gotta chime in here..........

I have been using MM for roughly 6 months now and so far have very much enjoyed the program as an audio managing program. I have used iTunes, WMP, Song Bird, and the Creative software that came with my sound card and several others that I dumped right away. By far MM is the best I have used and it is very easy to use.

Now I do not own an iPod or any type of mp3 player. I use MM to manage my 70+ gig worht of music for my home entertainment system.

I went with MM because I don't do video. Everyone else I tried did video in some way or another.

Now as a suggestion is that keep MM they way it is but make a compatible plug in for those that want to also have video managing that will integrate seamlessly with MM, or make a version of MM with video management while also offering MM as an audio management with out the video.

I would like to see synchronizing get an overhaul before we tackle video and add to the issues. Let's get audio sync working flawlessly and then look to add video, etc.

Once we're all satisfied that audio is bulletproof, adding video should be an easier prospect.

whether people like it or not.. if Mediamonkey wants to "survive" in a market where the main media players are free, it needs to add video support...

I agree a plugin would be the best solution for all, JMHO.

This would also be a doable option. As stated both for and against video support, just because it is available does not mean you have to use it. It would be nice if the developers gave the user the option to enable or disable video support, that way everyone has the best of the audio and video world.
