iPhone Not Working With MM3 "alpha"
Moderator: Gurus
re. m4a playback problem - I can't reproduce it, m4a playback works well. Is it related to some tracks only and can it really be triggered by playback from iPhone/iTouch only? Possibly try to e-mail me a sample file causing this...
re. playback of some tracks from iPhone - this will be fixed in the next release.

Jiri:
I tried the exact iteration described in the above post 4 four times. The same behavior occured ALL times...this was with complete re-install. The behavior was totally consistent.
Each time after accessing the iphone m4a playback stopped working in MM 1137 for ALL M4A FILES, including files on the iphone and my NAS.
The first two times I only accessed the iphone, I did not actually try to playback any track files from the iphone or sync anything. The same "lock out" of m4a files occurred in MM 1137. The third time and the fourth time that I outlined above I specifically tried playbeck from the iphone itself of both files types. There was no specific file used each time...I don't remember the specific files. Do they show up in the log files?
The phone is in use for business during the week and is not really available for practical testing.
I had hoped the logs would be of some use. I will be able to test again over the weekend.
Since there is no specific file causing the problem that I am aware of, I'm not sure what I could send you that would be of use. The same files that were synced to the iphone with itunes currently playback fine from my NAS and other ipods and nanos in 1134...and they all (have not tried every one...lol) seem to playback fine now from a re-install of 1137 that HAS NOT been connected to the iphone.
Thanks for any help with this issue.

I have the phone for testing today....
I have used 1137 all week. It has worked flawlessly playing back all types of songs m4a and mp3. It has synced perfectly with iPod nanos.
1).Today I plugged the iPhone into the computer and checked with itunes...everything was fine...m4a's and mp3's played back fine from the iphone thru itunes. I then deleted all but one of each type....and checked those...they played back fine in iTunes.
2).I then unplugged iphone and closed itunes.
3). Opened MM 1137 and checked random playback of mp3 and m4a...no probl;ems encountered..MM operated normally. Picked two files at random and created new playlist of one mp3 and one m4a. These played perfectly.
4).Plugged iphone into computer...MM 1137 identified phone instantly and displayed the correct two audio files left in the phone.
5). I then tried to play the m4a file in the new playlist in MM. It greyed out...and did not play....the mp3 file played normally.
6). I then tried to playback the m4a file on the iphone thru MM...same behavior it greyed out and didn't play...the mp3 on the iphone played back normally.
7). Both files playback normally from the iphone itself.(The album art is screwed up on the mp3 on the iphone)
8 ). NO m4a in my library will playback, MM just begins moiving thru the library greying out each m4a as it goes...if it encounters an mp3 it will play it normally...as well, MM is now pulling over 90% of CPU resources and is essentially locked up my computer.
9). Removed iphone from computer, cleared playlist and MM seemed to settle down. MM would still not playback any m4a.
10). Closed and restarted MM. It still will not playback ANY m4a file..it "greys out" after selection.
11.) Restarting computer....
12). Restarted MM...m4as still will not playback...and MM seems to become unstable...locking up CPU requiring me to kill with Task manager.
This is the same consistent behavior as reported last week. The same exact behavior logged in the debug files presented. Until I re-install MM; it will not operate correctly. I do not see any connection with individual track files. If you think there is- please let me know what to send you.
****I will wait a short time for a response before re-installing...Possibly something in the ini or other files could be of use while MM is in this specific state.
I have not synced FROM MM yet, the files on the iphone were synced with itunes...the next thing I will try is clearing the iphone completely then adding songs from MM....

That's really strange. My only idea is that if playback of m4a track otherwise works, the only difference from playback of m4a track from iPhone is that such a track if firstly downloaded to your Windows temporary folder (also configurable in MM Options dialog). Could you check out whether playback of m4a's from this folder works well? Or even directly try to play a track from this folder when it's downloaded there by MM (you have to forcefully close MM beforehand, otherwise it will delete the temporary file there on the end of playback).

I will check as you ask...but I need a little bit simpler instruction...I could not fully understand what you wanted me to do from the previous post....
Do I need to reinstall to a correctly operating state?
I want to make clear that...all I have to do is connect the iphone to MM 1137 and all m4a playback is broken in MM....nothing else need be done...no transfers etc...just the act of connecting it causes the playback problem.

I.e.:
1. You play a m4a file from your Library - ok.
2. You connect iPhone and nothing else
3. You play the same m4a and it doesn't work.
Is it right? If so, I wonder what happens when you remove d_iPhone.dll plug-in from MM plugins folder. Does it help?
In any case, it seems to be somehow related to QT playback used in this plug-in.

Yes that is the case...
1). play any m4a ok in MM 1137
2). connect iphone
3). same or any m4a will NOT playback from MM
I am trying now to re-install...for some reason i cannot get m4a's to playback even after reinstall...sigh.
I will do the test you ask...
1). I will get MM to fail as described....
2). I will close MM and then remove d_iphone.dll and test.

Just to let you know what I'm doing....right now
For some reason I cannot even get a clean reinstall of 1137 to playback any m4a's now...
Reinstalled 1134 and it plays m4a's back fine....very confusing.
Previously, when I did a complete reinstall I could then play m4a's with 1137 prior to connecting iphone.
I removed d_iphone from 1137 plugins file and 1137 now plays m4a's....

1). Added d_iphone back to 1137 plugins file...when I restarted MM it would not playback the same m4a song I just played....and MM is now locked up pulling 97% CPU.....
2). Ended MM with Taskmanager...removed d_iphone and restarted 1137 now plays same m4a correctly.....
This file seems to be critical to the problem...one odd thing is that I cannot get 1137 to work properly with a clean install even BEFORE iphone connection as I have been able to previously.

I can't get the files work in the iphone either. They transfer without problems (OMG can't believe i soon can uninstall iTunes!) - but when the files are on the phone there's no cover art, and only one of the 4 albums i transfered was working.
All files are MP3, and two of the albums had same "specs" - 192kb/s NOT VBR, where's only one of those two albums would play back.
I assume there's a bug in the routine that stores the files on the phone. I did a quick check in /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/ and i didn't understand that quite - there 12 folders like F01 to F12, and half of them contained two MP3's with just one word.mp3, while the rest were empty. Didn't make much sense...

Fantastic! That fixed my problem (songs not playing, and album art missing).jiri wrote:Btw, build 1140 is out, you can check it out.
But the iphone rebooted first time i started coverflow (holding the phone sideways). Not sure if that's related to mediamonkey though, but i have a feeling it has, since the phone was "fresh" (restored in itunes).
1140 sync to iphone still flawed
I installed 1140 and am still having the same problem. Sync appears to succeed, but only about half of the songs actually play back on iphone. Still don't see any pattern to which ones play and which don't.
