I really don't know, but its certainly possible.Guest wrote:Hi I've got an 80gig classic ipod that has only ever been used with media monkey. (i did not configure it with itunes initially.)
Now I'm trying to use it on a mac that has itunes.
Whenever I connect it it asks me to go through a 'setup up ipod' procedure where i have to name it etc. If i continue with this setup procedure will itunes reformat my ipod?
thanks

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Hello
I am starting to sync my ipod classic (160Gb) using MM (I prviously used iTunes).
By the moment in general all works fine (some cover and playlist problems solved or discussed in the forum).
The problem that i have is related to playcount: the songs played in the Ipod is not updated correctly in MM playcount (and also last played date.)
Any idea?
Thanks and regards

MM doesn't recognize that my iPhone is connected
Hi,
I followed all the set up steps MM suggested for iTunes and when I connect my iPhone to the PC MM still does not recognize it. I keep getting the error message that it is not connected. Any ideas????

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
I cannot put music onto my iPhone with MediaMonkey. I have an iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2 (using iTunes 8.0.2.20 and MediaMonkey 3.0.6.1190).
I've set up everything exactly as described in the guide, and tried selecting folders and/or playlists to synchronize. I can see the iPhone in the tree and MediaMonkey does read the file that are on the iPhone and give me the option of deleting them when I sync, but it does not copy files to my iPhone.
When I click the sync button, I see the bar near the bottom that says: "Synchronizing iPhone - iPhone: (Preparing list of tracks)"
Then the window pops up asking if I want to delete the old content. If I click "yes", the bar says: "Synchronizing iPhone - iPhone: (Removing old content)"
Then, the bar changes to: "Synchronizing iPhone - iPhone:" and immediately the bar turns green and disappears, leaving me with no music on the iPhone (if I've deleted the old content).
If I try the alternate method and drag files to the iPhone icon in the tree, or use "Send to iPhone - iPhone", MediaMonkey briefly flashes a bar that says: "Copying to iPhone - iPhone: (Copying 0 of 48)." The number never changes from 0, and the bar quickly disappears, and nothing is transferred to the iPhone.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't much care for the prospect of using iTunes. MediaMonkey has been my music app of choice for many many years now, and I'm way too old to change!

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Have you set up the sync list in the iPod's options? Look at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... file_Setup

Yes, I've tried setting it up to sync playlists, file locations, and combinations of both.nohitter151 wrote:Have you set up the sync list in the iPod's options? Look at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... file_Setup
Aha, I have just found the problem. My music collection is on a network share. If I move some files to a local folder and sync to that, it works perfectly.
The "Music" tab under "Auto-Sync List" shows my network drive twice: once with just it's name on the network, and again with the drive letter that I've mapped it to -- i.e. it's showing "net:part0" and "net:part0(X:)". If I select folders from "net:part0(X:)", then the sync works. If I select folders from "net:part0", the sync does not work.
When MediaMonkey first scanned my library, I must have browsed through my network locations -- it recorded file locations as "[part0]\MyMusic\Artist\Album\track.mp3". I've just rescanned my library, being careful to use the mapped drive and not the network location, and now the paths are recorded as "X:\MyMusic\Artist\Album\track.mp3". Everything works perfectly now: I can sync music from all locations and playlists to my iPhone.
Re: Guide to iPod syncing
I spoke way too soon - what I said in the last post turned out to be the exact opposite of what I needed to do. It turns out that MediaMonkey doesn't handle mapped drives very well, and so the next time I rebooted all of the file paths in my music library reverted to "[part0]\MyMusic\...". So you actually want to make sure your library uses the UNC path, which in my case is "\\wl500g.premium\part0\MyMusic\...". NOW the sync works, even after rebooting. When MediaMonkey first scanned my library, I must have browsed through my network locations -- it recorded file locations as "[part0]\MyMusic\Artist\Album\track.mp3". Re: Guide to iPod syncing
I really would like to use my iPhone 3G with firmware 2.0 and MediaMonkey 3.0.6.1190, but without having iTunes 8.0.2.20 on my PC. I only want to rip CDs to the iPhone and manage the music library with MM on this PC, and I will then be authorising iTunes on a different dedicated PC for firmware upgrades, iStore, and other sync features.
I started by only installing C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support which installs usbaapl.sys and creates the "Apple Mobile Device" service. This results in the commonly reported fault of the "iPhone being detected as a Digital Still Camera in Device Manager under Imaging Devices".
So far I have not been able to get my PC (O/S is XP media Center Edition SP3) to recognise the iPhone without iTunes being present. The important part of the iTunes installation appears to be an additional "iPod Service" that also has to be running on the PC to get the iPhone detected as a music storage device. I find that everything works with MediaMonkey 3.0.6.1190 when iTunes is installed.
After uninstalling iTunes I had to change C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Plugins\d_iphone.dll to off.d_iphone (as posted elsewhere in this forum) to get MediaMonkey 3.0.6.1190 to work again, but the "iPod Service" has now gone. The iPhone is then back to being only detected as a camera.
So I would like to be able to preserve the "iPod Service" when uninstalling iTunes. Does anyone know if this can actually be done?

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
Probably it cannot. Apple wants iTunes on everyone's computer, it seems.Nigel wrote:I really would like to use my iPhone 3G with firmware 2.0 and MediaMonkey 3.0.6.1190, but without having iTunes 8.0.2.20 on my PC. Re: Guide to iPod syncing
It's a shame that having ITunes on one authorised PC doesn't release another PC for thirdy party music library manipulation by products like MM. Perhaps a "drivers only" version of ITunes could be made to only respond to iPhones that carry a valid iTunes account.

Re: Guide to iPod syncing
I have an Ipod Touch 2G.
I have gone through the process in iTunes to use MM to load mp3 files onto my Touch.
While in MM, the program shows the Touch has the files transfered from the library to the Touch.
When I disconnect the Touch and attempt to play music on the Touch, it says that there is no music to play.
Back in MM, looking at the Touch library, the path for a given mp3 file is: \iTunes_Control\Music\F12\Gene.mp3
How can I get my Touch to recognize the files when it isn't connected to my pc and MM?
...edit....
Some more info:
I found the following here: If MediaMonkey is synching to the iPod in a manner that may not
be compatible with more recent versions of iPod firmware. To solve
this, go to the iPod Device Configuration panel (Tools | Options |
Portable/Audio Devices | iPod | Configure), and then under
'Compatibility Settings' enable 'Force iTunes-style Folders'.
I tried doing this. I got as far as the configure part, but there was no 'compatibility settings' or 'enable itunes style folder' option.
Also, when I went to portable/audio device, there were 4 listings of my Touch.

Bought a netbook on which I don't want to install Itunes.
Can I use MM and import from my Ipod touch 2G to the netbook?
