That's right. i.e. if one uses MM's USB Sync or Wi-Fi Sync to sync between MMA and MMW then any data contained within any fields that are supported in MMA will be kept in sync between the 2 apps. On the other hand, if one syncs using some other application, then only metadata picked up from the tags by Android's Media Scanner, will be picked up by MMA.

If we add our own scanner in the future, it would presumable support all the fields that MMW does, but there are higher priority items on our to do list, atm.

So it turns out that it's a bug in the Android Media Store and there's nothing that MMA can do about it until we implement our own independent scanner. So for now, the solution is to ensure that you sync to MMA using MMW.

fyi, more about this here:

Has anyone figured this issue out yet?

I'm new to MediaMonkey, but it's been hailed to my by some friends as a great way to manage a large (160+ GB) music collection and completely bypass iTunes.

I'm in a similar situation to the original poster "meljmartin", but in reading the responses to this ticket, there didn't seem to be a resolution found. I had hoped since it was an old ticket that a solution had been found in MediaMonkey by the time I started reading this thread, but doesn't look like it.

I have several compilation albums and in the other music management software applications I've tried, I've been able to use the Album Artist field to group all of my compilations together (naming them Various Artists), so that the plethora or artists in there doesn't clutter up my album listing.

The option seems to be available within MediaMonkey to do that... but after I've updated the Album Artist Field, and refreshed the database within MediaMonkey... the old tag information remains and the artists from this compilation are still strewn across my Album Artist listing.

I've tried editing this Album Artist field in Windows Explorer, and MP3Tag. It seems to be changed in everywhere except MediaMonkey.

Any assistance would be fantastic!

Hi black_rider

I presume you have got your library organised the way you want it on the desktop, but are finding it all jumbled on the Android device?

If so, the only reliable way I've found to get this to work is to:

Delete all the content from the Android device
Force-stop MMA and clear its cached data
Manually delete the MediaMonkey directories (on the device and memory card, if one is present)
Sync the content back from the the desktop version of MediaMonkey. Don't just copy the files across using Windows Explorer - it has to be MM doing the copying. And also, in my experience, it's best to pick either wifi or wired sync and stick with your chosen method, rather than mixing the two.

If you were planning to use the auto-conversion feature, perhaps because you have your library stored on the desktop in lossless format, or an incompatible format, I'm afraid that seems not to work. In this case, the best option is to maintain a separate, mirrored, set of mp3 music on the desktop, import all this into the desktop library (and set up some rules so you only see, for example, the lossless version of each track under one tree, and the mp3 version under another tree), then use MM to sync the mp3 version to the device.

It's a shame the process is so finicky, but once it's done, I think MM is the best option, so it's worth it.

Good luck

Nick
