This is used in Auto-Tag from Web.

I thought Auto-Tag always used the web? Did you mean just with Discogs?

This integrates with Auto-Tag from Web, so you set it as source. MediaMonkey itself has no build in Auto-Tag for Web source anymore. MediaMonkey 5 does come with a
build in Auto-Tag.

I assumed that Auto-Tag was always a part of MM. And, now I find out that Auto-Tag was added in MM5 and uses Discogs?

No, Auto-Tag from Web used to have a native source (Amazon) in MediaMonkey 4 and older. This was lost at some point, but has returned in MediaMonkey 5 as Auto-Tag (using MusicBrainz).
Discogs is available as source in MediaMonkey 4 via this Third Party Addon, but not available in MediaMonkey 5.

Why not make it available in MM5? If it has been done in MMW already, it might not be that much harder to do that?

Addons require a rewrite for MediaMonkey 5 as it's prepared for cross-platform compatibility whereas MediaMonkey 4 and older relied on outdated Windows only technology. It's up to the Addons developer if they want to update this Addon for MediaMonkey 5.

How does Discogs Tagger get the "First release date of album"?
I see lots of mentions of OriginalDate in the vbs script but it's way too complicated for me.
I'm trying to achieve the same thing using
Mp3tag but having no luck at all. All it seems to look for are
these fields.
Does anyone, especially crap_inhuman, know how to use Mp3tag to get the original release year of albums from Discogs or MusicBrainz?
Thanks.
Hey, i get the OriginalDate from the master-release.
I can't help you with MP3Tag, sorry.

[A simple question...] Is this tool just for rips? Or, can it be used in Auto-Tag? [For example]
Sorry, i didn't understand your question

IOW, it is used just for ripping CDs? Or, can it be used for tagging in general?

It can be used for tagging in general.
Just mark a cd and "auto tag from web.."

I know, many people like to see the Discogs Tagger in MM5.
After a break i tried again to convert the Discogs Tagger from MM4 to MM5.
Drakinite gave me many tips for a good start, but... I give up. JS isn't my language.
It was not easy for me, but i cancel the project...sorry...

it would be nice if it could just match/detect by track name. I am trying to update only songs with featured artists tags in the album artist (about 5000 songs that i have added to a playlist). I want the featured artists in track title (Feat.), not under the album artist which your tool does. This works but only if you add the whole album to the search and sometimes it still cant even match up the tracks correctly. It will match songs with different names for some reason. no idea why this is so difficult for me lol

.
