I'm a bit stumped here on how to get this to work. I guess I'm having permissions problems, but I've set my Local Intranet to run all active content. I am running Windows Vista (x86) from a standard user account.

Here's the error I get when I try to make a backup for the first time:

And here are my settings:

Originally, I had the path set to include \<Y><M><D> but that didn't work either. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

It solved my problem when I was having this issue (but on WinXP not Vista)

Thanks. I'm a bit wary to try it though when nothing in either post references Vista. As a long time XP user, I can say that Vista is a whole nother animal when it comes to who can run what and when! Can anyone verify if this is a safe solution for Vista (x86)?

This seems to be working properly when I close MM. Only when I choose to backup now did I get that error. I wasn't able to use the archive function however. The process message says Error: ZIP component could not be installed. I was able to add another level this time with \<Y><M><D> though so I think I'm okay without an archive.

Thanks for the help!

Spacefish:

Go back to the first page, a few posts down Trixmoto has a link for the xzip.dll file which should fix that error.

The "XZip.dll" should be included in the installation package, but on Vista I found that I needed to manually run "regsvr32" as administrator and pass in the path - Vista would not allow the script to automatically register this component.

How do I pass in the path? The location is C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts but I don't know how to convert that to something regsvr32 understands.

Just put quotes around it, something like...

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Scripts\XZip.dll"

Even trying to run that from my admin account I got an error (0x80020009). Oh, well. I'll have to try something else tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

You have to run from an elevated cmd prompt..

easiest way is right click desktop and create shortcut > cmd

after shortcut made, right click the shortcut and choose run as administrator

then enter the regsvr string posted earlier. (make sure the path to MM is correct, if you installed it to different folder)

The reason you must do this is, because even if you log in as administor, vista does not run elevated by default if you have UAC on..

You must either disable UAC or do the above

Oh wow, I just read 16 pages to get to this solution! Sweet, at least now it works, but is there any way to have this included when the script is installed?

My other questions were:

1) Are ratings and playcounts backed up in the MM database?
2) Why is the Include BackupPlaylists export greyed out? Do I need to install another script in addition to Backup?

Thanks for a great script :)

The script attempts to do this automatically, but if you have UAC switched on in Vista then it fails (blame M$! :)).

1) Yes.
2) This is a separate script which I included the code for so people didn't have to install both. However, I've not update this script for MM3 yet. Once I have I'll also include it and re-enable this option.
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

Just wanted to thank everyone who helped me get this script working. I now have backups run automatically on shut down complete with zip archives.

Cheers!
