3rd gen nano sync issues
Hi all,
Just received an 8GB Nano for Christmas.
I have followed every step in the guide at the top of this thread.
And I can copy the mp3's from MM to my Nano just fine.
But no matter which folder I put the mp3's in (on the nano), once I disconnect the nano from my pc, it shows "no music".
I've tried every variation on the device settings that I can think of (within MM/tools/options/portable device setting/My ipod) but still no luck.
I've tried enabling and disabling the options to:
*Force iTunes style folders
*Trim path to 31 characters
Under "sync options", I've tried sync'ing tracks to:
\<artist> - <album> - <track#> - <title>
\<track#> - <title>
\iPod_Control\Music\<artist> - <album> - <track#> - <title>
\iPod_Control\Music\F00\<artist> - <album> - <track#> - <title>
and a couple of other variations as well, and none of it will allow the nano to see the files once disconnected from the pc.
If I fire up the dreaded iToons, it immediately tells me that the nano needs to have its software reconfigured, so I do that, and I can then sync stuff from iToons to the nano, and that works just fine.
Close iToons, fire up MM, and I can see the tracks that I sync'd with iToons, but if I then add some new tracks with MM, and disconnect from the pc, we're back to square one... no music at all.
Hopefully, I've given enough detail here about the steps I've taken so far.
If anyone has any ideas on what it is I'm doing wrong, or not doing, or whatever, I'd love to hear from you!
Oh, and for the record, I'm running MM 2.5.5.996 (gold licence), on XP+SP2.
Thanks guys.

Re: 3rd gen nano sync issues
You need Mediamonkey 3 to sync with the new nanos.audio2u wrote:Hi all,

180 gb classic sync
I just received a 180GB classic and I am having problems identical to those described above.audio2u wrote:Hi all,

My procedure has been similar to that above except that I nave not used iTunes to sync at all- have only used it to register to pod and update the firmware. i don't want iTunes going anywhere near my carefully organized collection. Plus, about half of it is .flac anyway which I will down-convert.
I was using the latest MM2 version but then read that I needed MM3. I installed MM3 RC5 and still had the same problem. I then read in another thread about someone who'd had problems with RC5 so I uninstalled it and installed RC4 instead. Same problem. any suggestions?
I'm a gold license holder, BTW and am really excited about all the new features, especially album view, in MM3. Running Vista home premium. Get my ipod syncing correctly and my life will be complete!
Update 3 hours later: Looks like I actually had reinstalled RC5 aftrer uninstalling it, and was not running RC 4. Having corrected that mistake, I am now running RC4 and the iPod appears to be syncing successfully. I am learning my way around the sync process with some success and look will content myself with RC4. looking forward to the official release!
keep up the good work!

RC6 works well with iPod Nano
I was having the exact same problems using MM ver 2.5. The moment MM wrote data to the iPod Nano, the Nano forgot everything it knew, even though MM could see everything fine. Once the Nano was disconnected from the PC, it simply showed "no music". Once this happens, you must fire up iTunes and let it "restore" the iPod to factory specs (that erases all data, but this was a new nano, so no big deal).
I saw the above posts and upgraded to MM ver 3 RC6, installed it right over the top of ver 2.5. Just let the installer do it's default 'thing'. The installer worked SUPERBLY, noticing a previous install and offering to convert the ver 2.5 database to ver 3.0 . It also said it would make a backup of the old database. EXCELLENT! That means no worries, mate.
Ver 3.0 RC6 sees the nano, syncs to it, and all is well. Nano is happy now.
BTW, the new look of the interface is GREAT, and no more cheesy Monkey Icon or splash screen. Very classy, now. As an adult, I can show it to other adults without apologizing for the cheesy monkey. NICE WORK, guys! I'm a Gold 2.5 owner, and I will gladly shell out $34.95 for a new Lifetime Gold license immediately. What an awesome program.

This is the exact problem I had with my new Nano 4GB (new Nano's are 3rd generation), using MM version 2.5 . The beta version 3.0 RC6 worked for me. It's still available hereAnonymous wrote:I just bought a Nano and I have MM but when I put the mp3 files on my ipod, they don't show up.
It says no music, no anything.
Can anyone help me?
(I don't have itunes, and I would rather not have to get it)
The public release of version 3.0 is almost identical, but perhaps something broke the iPod compatibility. I'll find out for myself soon, as I'm about to load the new 3.0 on my wife's lappy.
Words of advice
I am using MM 3.0.1.1127 Gold and I have discovered a few things while trying to sync 136GB of music to my iPod Classic (160GB). After the third sync I think I have learned a few things:
- When performing the sync don't stop it midstream. If you do this it corrupts the files and won't allow the iPod to see your music. Not sure why but it happens. And when this happens you have to use i-tunes to "restore" your iPod.
- Let MM finish whatever processes it is doing. Don't "terminate".
- And when you disconnect always be sure to "Safely Remove Device". Do not remove your iPod without performing this step.
After taking care to follow the instructions at the top of this thread and the few notes I have listed here I have been able to sync all my music with no problems.
Good luck.

Well,
I got it running with my 160gb. I can sync to ipod no problem.
Only question I really have, is syncing to PC from ipod.
I want to be able to update the ratings of my songs and then just sync... however it dosen'T seem to be associated properly with my localfiles as the ipod is trying to push the mp3 files in ipod format : ...\F10\Mika.mp3
Is it possible?
Sorry for the lack of details, please tell me what you need to know... first time (ipod) user here.

AAC auto-conversion
Any news on auto-conversion to AAC for syncing with an iPod? I have just set up sync with a new 8Gb nano. Worked perfectly but I'd like to sync my FLAC library to AAC on the iPod rather than MP3s.
The AAC input plugin also works fine so MM can play AACs but I can't auto-convert to AACs from anything else. I found an output plugin for winamp http://www.rarewares.org/aac-encoders.php but either it doesn't work or can't work or MM doesn't know how to apply it. Any ideas?
Simon
