Do I need to do anything more than edit the IgnoreDriveLetters in the MediaMonkey.ini file and restart MM ? It is is still picking up my u3 drive...

MM + U3 = bad

I was unable to load anything to library, then everything froze or broke.
I had to reboot. I see another common denominator here:
I also have an AMD processor.
[Un]plugging my u3 drive was like hitting the pause button on my whole computer.
This really is a problem with the ugly way u3 hacks its way in by appearing as a cd drive to run programs.
I'll be giving my u3 as a gift and just using portable apps on a normal thumb drive. The only u3 program that I use is the cruzer sync. Everything else is portable apps.

I believe there is a way to convert U3 to non-U3 so you don't have to find a new USB Drive.

If you really want to remove the U3 Launchpad, and turn your U3 drive into a regular USB flash drive, follow the intructions here:

My MM.ini (using MM version 3.0.2.1129 ) doesn't have that.. all i have is:

[out_wave]
cfg_buf_ms=2000
cfg_dev=1
cfg_volume=1
cfg_altvol=0
cfg_resetvol=0
cfg_prebuf=0
cfg_trackhack2=0

I've found there are two MM.ini files - one in the installation directory with nearly nothing in it, and another in a user-specific directory. Search your drive and you'll find both of them.

2. In MediaMonkey.ini file there is parameter
IgnoreDriveLetters=AB
You can expand it to e.g.
IgnoreDriveLetters=ABGD
Where G: is U3 system in my case and D: is my CD/DVD drive
Then Primo should not conflict with U3 then, but we use this engine to reading/writing CDs/DVDs, so you will not be able to access e.g. audio CD inserted to D: via explorer tree.
Thanks, that works for me!

1. If you do not need to use U3 capabilites you can use this (Windows XP):
Note: You will need to have Administrative privileges to do this.

Right Click On My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> DVD/CD-ROM devices and Disable U3 CD-Rom (Right Click -> Disable). But this probably cause that you will not be able to use the device as U3, but as a classical memory disk.

I will let you know once we resolve this somehow better.
Please let me/us know when you have a better solution. Neither of these will work for me because a) I'm not giving up my U3 functionality [I find it very useful and it's one of the reasons I buy SanDisk drives]; and b) I'm using MM to sync to my flash drive, so obviously it has to recognize the drive for that to work.

I just set up my MM.ini to ignore the virtual CD Drive setup by the Sandisk U3 Cruzer (K: for me) and it works perfectly. I can still access the real removeable L: without any issues.

Thanks for the tip.

I uninstalled the U3 launchpad and it seems not to interfere with MM anymore.

I've done the same. I hate the U3 launchpad, its not only MM that I've had problems with - pretty much any other program that can detect a CD drive locks up when the drive is loaded.

I've found you can get all the same functionality of a U3 drive, without the errors, for free, and compatible with any drive from sites like http://portableapps.com/ .

I thought that this bug had been fixed?

I just chucked in my U3 stick and MM crashed.

I've taken the steps above to ignore the drive letter, looking for a more permanent solution though hopefully.

I can create a debug log if needed?

Cheers, Mike.

No, as far as I know the issue was never "fixed". Personally I don't know how feasible a "fix" is, as U3 software crashed basically any program that reads a CD drive for me.

MediaMonkey 3.0.1.1116 RC-4 wrote:3887 Fixed use of devices (U3 usb key) that emulate CD can fail or trigger freeze
The u3 software also crashes with me on anything that recognizes CD drives.

It seemed to break my Nero pretty good, but its a handy program to have when im at Work, so uninstalling it isnt really an option :(.
