I had almost ten thousand, but then I had to clear my harddrive, so now I have exactly seven, lol. Don't worry, I was able to back up about 75% of my collection before I ran out of blank CDs, but I'm dreading reripping them all!

I have about 10,000 WAV files now. I store the higher file size to maintain the sound quality. I am having a backup problem now though and need some advice on the best (and fastest) method for backing up my files.

First off all i think you have to abandon wav format.
If your main concern is quality then you can convert your files to a lossless formats like APE or FLAC. That way you will have all the quality you want (equal to wav format) and save about 75% of your space since those formats achieve an 1:4 compress ratio.
If you do that you will not need new hard drives for quite a long time

As for backup (always backup even if you have plenty of storage left!!!!!) you can always use DVDs.
I have just answered a similar question to another post, here is the link

Hope that helps...

Okay, I may be the sickest one here. These stats are current as of a week ago:

Type Library
Artists 8966
Albums 12237
Genres 363
Years 57
Playlists 730
Tracks 65698
Length (h:mm:ss) 4796:43:08
File size 381.2 GB

I haven't scraped the surface of listening to everything yet. I listen to music at work, at home and in the car, but can't keep up with my tastes, which includes pretty much everything other than country pop.

I've got 720gb of hard drive storage across 3 HDs and I archive to DVD+R once I've tagged and renamed complete CDs. I'm way behind on my tagging and only have 15 DVD+R archives thus far.

OK...back to listening to music (i.e. chasing my tail).

I have been collecting MP3's since late 1997. Thank god for the advent of large drives. You guys should have been around when a GB of space cost $30. You would have paid $120 for a 4GB drive. I'm just glad I don't have to "park" data anymore outside my house. This is 2/3 of my collection off a striped raid server. Its finally aligned properly, thanks to the new 500GB drives, and Dr. Tag. I am also happy that MM finally supports Ipod, because the ITunes software can't manage the collection at all. Keep up the good work MM.

OK, what songs do you have from the 1929 and 1930's? My collection starts in the late 1950's.

Hey,

6500 and still one third ahead, 500 Vinyls, yes i'm about 40, and no idea how to get them on one of my Harddisks, the only way is hard, hard work i thing.

And about 500 CDs from my Girlfriend just came in and still waiting, not the Girlfriend, the CDs, she's still here a while but now must wait a little.

I used mostley 192 kbs, some 320 kbs, a little 128 kbs and 200 - 250 flacs = 53.5 gb divided on one internal and one USB Harddrive.

I don't use any Back-up solution because for my
personal listening pleasure i normaly use the original CDs and the mp3 only on Parties or similar events and when it will not work the way i want there are still the CDs.

On one occasion, my Girlfriends Birthday in our Living Room, someone came around with BPM Player ,Private Edition 200+ € , 240+ $ ( ? ), High End Notebook, Intel 64 bit CPU ( gettin' hot, very hot ), 3 or more Ghz, 2000+ €, 2400+ $ ( ? ) a very fantastic programm a very fantastic Notebook but at least we used Media Monkey and our old 800 Mhz AMD, like everytime.

Vinyl to MP3

Post by kingpablo »

I am still ripping a VERY large collection of vinyl to mp3. The obvious problem of ripping analog source to digital is that it has to be done on real time. www.dak.com Take a look because the solution works. I am still slowly ripping my vinyl.

I think a friend of mine got the biggest here: Around 80.000 Songs stored on 2 x 250GB HDDs. Emule makes it possible...Big isn't it? ;-)
