My search for an app that reads from the SD card by default (will load music from the SD) is bearing no fruit. I have downloaded like 50 different apps, including apps that claim to read the SD card - no luck.

The issue is not that the app can't see the SD card, I can go file manager, open an artist folder, select all songs and open with any app, the music plays just fine. But really, who wants to browse file manager to listen to music? I want my music app to be configurable, have a settings and allow ME to choose where my library is located and then list my library INSIDE the app? Why is that soooo hard?

What is it about Windows that does not allow the SD card to be included in your libraries? It is MADDENING. I tried 10 different apps today. hell I don't even read about them anymore, I just download app after app and test to see if they work. The bonus is I get to leave negative feedback for the losers that are creating apps that suck!

Maybe Microsoft will get a clue some day. Buuuuut in the interim - any update on the status update of MM8 for Windows RT?

Hey Ricker,

Have a look at this post to get Metro apps to include the SD card:
http://winsupersite.com/article/windows ... pps-144658

It's not ideal but it is a workaround until we get a good resolution. Make sure you name the folder in the SD card "Documents", "photos", "video" and "Music". (These exact names are important)

Here's a summarized procedure:
Create the following folders on your SD card
• Documents
• Music
• Photos
• Video
Create an empty folder: C:\SD
Open Indexing Options -> Modify
Expand C:\ and add a check mark next to C:\SD
Open Disk Management
Select the SD card and then select "Change Drive Letter and Paths…"
Click Add and then click Mount in the folder C:\SD. (You might need to remove the existing drive letter)
Open Explorer and Manage library for each media library
Add the folder from C:\SD. You can also make it the default save location.
Open up a media Metro Media app and see if your media file appear when you open the library. There might be a delay while the SD card is being indexed.

Thank you - but I have tried this also. Even just now and just like previous attempts no luck.

I was just offered MediaMonkey from the Windows 8 Store. Looks like the app has released! No review yet but wanted to share the good news...

I just downloaded and installed it and all I have to say is HELL YES! :D Finally MediaMonkey does what even Microsoft failed to do! As I type this the software appears to be loading my music collection from the Sd card. As I mess with it today I will post progress - but at first glance - this is the ONE App that the Microsoft store SORELY needed!~

Thank you MM - when are you going to make a "Pro" version? I would gladley update to it RIGHT NOW!

I alsp posted a positive Review (hopefully mine is the first one!)

Oh boy - Not sure what is going on. I will wait for the music to finish loading and restart my tablet. The GUI is beautiful but when I try to play any song, any album or artist all I get is a Hiss - I can faintly hear music in the background, but the hiss is prominent. Any ideas? I had previously turned on the equalizer, but have turned it off since.

Music finished loading - I restarted it and the hiss remains. Hopefully it is a easy fix because the work you put into the GUI is beautiful, highly functional and fits my needs perfectly.

Incidentally I am not using a Microsoft Surface, I have the new Dell XPS 10 tablet with Windows RT

Update: I also tried playing music videos from MM8 and same result just a constant hiss

Robert, I'm currently playing a folder consisting of FLAC files, and everything seems to be working properly. I'm using the app on a laptop running Windows 8 Pro.

Yup I tried it on my laptop and it works beautifully also. Seems to be limited to the Windows RT environment. I did a search for MediaMonkey on my Windows Phone but MM8 is not available for windows phone? I wanted to see if the same problem occured in the windows phone environment - but not available for Windows Phone

You say FLAC files? What is a FLAC file? maybe it's because I'm using MP3?

Incidentally my name is Rick, friends call me Ricker

Some clarifications: MM8 is supposed (and tested) to be able to play well all audio formats both on Win8 and Win RT. Note that it doesn't exist for Windows Phone yet (and definitely won't at least for few months, since the platform is quite different).

As for finding the reasons for your problem, I'd try to play with eq and leveling (in Settings) first. Then make sure that some other apps work fine with the tested audio tracks.

Jiri - I have tried the eq, but cannot locate any settings tab? I have turned EQ on and then off - still only hiss. How can I get to volume leveling? I have also tried to play videos and no luck there either - just a hiss

It's the default Settings button - just swipe from right screen edge.
