So we're back to Simon's question: is there an AAC output plugin that will work with MM?

MM3 supports .aac natively.

Not for output to a portable device, only for input/playback.

Is MM3 writing badly to the iPod database, or is this a design feature of MM3???

Did you have the force i-tunes folder style option selected. Which is at:

tools->options->Portable/Audio Devices->ipod->configure->Device Configuration

Yes, I've just checked the above and this is set. For now I will have to use iTunes to sync and MM3 for general use.

All iPods play MP3's just fine, as long as you don't exceed around 128 bitrate. I found out that 192 bitrate MP3's won't play at all, even though they play just fine on my Samsung MP3 player. The vaunted iPods can't handle it.

Hmm, my 80GB video iPod has no problem playing MP3s encoded at 192 Kbps and above. No, they're not being auto-converted during sync.

And according to Apple's website, the iPod Classic supports MP3s up to 320 Kbps.

Takes hours near a full day to fill 45 gb of music into my 160 gb IPOD.

Mine trasnfers at about 3.5-4.5 mb/sec.
So 45 gig would take me about 3.5 hours

Make a playlist of just the tracks that you want to synch. Under the "music" tab in the auto-synch dialog, Un-check "all" and check the playlist that you created under the "playlist" tab.
If you take tracks off or put tracks on the playlist, auto-synch will reflect the changes.

Forgive me for asking this - it may be blatantly obvious or have been answered elsewhere, but I'm frustrated and it's late......

I am managing podcasts, audiobooks and a small mp4 music collection in iTunes. Everytime I synch MM it asks if I want to delete my iTunes material. If I unselect the paths, MM won't synch at all. If I do agree to delete everything and MM synchs, I have to go back and resynch everything on iTunes again.

Is this right or am I missing something?

My experience has been that MediaMonkey stores music differently than iTunes, so when it creates a sync list the first time you've used it, the sync list doesn't match what iTunes has stored on your iPod, so it will delete what iTunes had stored. This assumes you have the "delete tracks that aren't on the sync list from the device" option checked, and doesn't include media in your "exclude folders" list. Assuming you don't sync with iTunes after that, future syncs with MM will only delete media that isn't on your sync playlists.


When you say "If I do agree to delete everything and MM synchs, I have to go back and resynch everything on iTunes again", what do you mean? Why do you have to resync with iTunes? Because MM deleted iTunes-synced media that you didn't want deleted, and that you weren't going to sync with MM?

I have added my hard-drive audiobooks directory and itunes music folder to the exceptions list, but it still asks me if i want to delete paths pertaining the f:\ (ie ipod) ipod-control folder. If I agree to this, whatever is in my iTunes library gets deleted and I have to re-synch from iTunes.

Am I supposed to add the f:\ ipod_control folder to the exceptions list if I want to stop MM interefering with things already on iTunes? I thought the c:\ folders should suffice?

I got my new ipod nano 3rd gen today and put some audiobooks on it. They show up in the Audiobook meny. Annoyingly enough each track on it's own, instead of grouped by author and book.

However, previously (with my ipod nano 3nd gen) I've instead used Genre -> Audiobook to get the tracks grouped, but now there is no Audiobook in the genre menu... Have I done something wrong? Or have Apple decided to change something in the new ipods?

(the audiobooks are several different tracks, one of them 300 different ones and I'd prefer not to merge them...)

I'm having the old 'Skips through all my songs without playing them' problem. I've read the solutions but when I go to the device configuration I dont have an option of "Trim file and/or path name length to 31". Does MM3 not have this option or am I blind?

thanks for the exact explanation, but I am sorry it does not work correct with MM 3.0.3.1155 and my IT and an Ipod touch 32GB.

I use MM to sync my Ipod with music, audiobooks and podcasts.

ITunes should do the rest, video, picture and videopodcasts.

Everything within IT is set to manually syncing, but when I try to sync my videopodcasts, everything that was synced with MM will be deleted.

How can I solve the problem?
