Album art does not work with FLAC files

Post by Guest »

When using FLAC files album art is not permanently saved with a track. I usually save the cover file in the current directory of the album. After downloading the cover file from Amazon it is shown with the track but when I select another album and then go back to the previous album the cover is no longer shown.

I checked the album directory and can confirm that the jpg file is saved in the album directory.

The same problem happens when I assign the saved album art jpg file to the track (instead of using Amazon).

This happens only with FLAC files. With OGG files the album art is permanently saved and shown.

Well FLAC Album art support is on To-Do as well as support for MPC, WAVE, APE,...
You can check on MM home pagge what file format supports what fields.

I don't find anything on MM homepage that album art is not supported for FLAC.

And I don't store the album art in the FLAC tags (so no FLAC fields must be supported). I store the album art (jpg files) in the directory where the FLAC files of the correspondig album are stored. Shouldn' that work for all type of media files?

Don't you think that will be fixed for 2.5.4 final? I recently switched from ogg files to flac and don't have any album art anymore. PLEASE consider to check it.

Problems tagging flac files

Post by rusty »

Hi,

I just tested album art with MediaMonkey 2.5.4.977 and don't understand what the problem is.

As Peke pointed out FLAC doesn't allow for Album Art to be saved to the tags (this may be added in a future release), however, if a track is in the MediaMonkey library, Auto-Tag from Amazon works perfectly fine for associating album art with tracks/albums!

Were the tracks that you're using added to the library?

Yes I have all songs in my library. For each album a separate directory exists and the album art for each album is stored in the corresponding album directory. When I auto-tag an album from Amazon the album art is stored in the directory and shown. But when I then select another album (shown album art changes) and then again select the previous album, the just downloaded album art is no longer shown (although it is still saved in the album directory). This happens only with flac files. With ogg files everything is ok and album art is permanently shown with the album. I didn't try mp3 files since I don't have an album of mp3 files.

When I try to assign the album art (which was downloaded from Amazon) manually to the album or only a single file of the album the same effect happens. First the album art is shown, but after selecting another album and then again select the previous album the album art is no longer shown.

I think this has nothing to do with support of flac files since I don't store the album art in the tags.

If you right click the album art does it indicate multiple images?

I've found sometimes (not specifically with flac) that if a corrupt/blank/not found image is the first art in the list, that new art will appear to not be added (because new art is appended to the end of the existing album art list).

Unfortunately the only work around I've found is to right click the art window, edit the album art properties and manually remove the blank art (and select update all album tracks).

No, it doesn't even show one image. Immediately after auto-tagging from Amazon righ clicking on the cover shows "image 1: cover (front)". After having selected another album and then switched back to the first album the cover is no longer shown and right clicking shows no image in the context menu.

All my music is stored on a network drive which has mapped a drive letter.
Can I produce a debug log which may be helpful?

That might be the problem. MediaMonkey does have some problems with the way Windows handles mapped drives. It's always best to access music thru it's network path instead. You could try creating a debug log while trying to save album art. Maybe MediaMonkey can't write for some reason the the drive, but doesn't show an error of this.

But why do album art then work with ogg files which are also saved on the same network drive? What do you mean with network path? Should I use the unc path?

How can I produce a debug log?

Yeah, I meant the UNC path. This prevents several problems, and might solve yours to.

A guide to creating a debug report can be found in the Bug forum.

I changed the settings in MM that the music is now accessed through the UNC path instead of the mapped drive letter. However, this did not change anything. But I found that the album art for an album for which saving did not work was properly shown after I closed and restarted MM.

By playing with some settings I further found that the mentioned problem only exists if I have set the option in MM that my music folder is monitored. As soon as I do not monitor my music folder I can assign album art even to FLAC files and they are always correctly shown. As soon as I change the option that my music folder is monitored, the problem reappears, but all album art which has been correctly saved (while the music folder was not monitored) is still correctly shown. Further I recognized that with monitoring "on" the album art does not disappear at once but that it takes sometimes some seconds. I have the impression that there is a delay caused by the online monitoring of the music files.

Finally, I found that after closing and restarting MM with music monitoring "on", the album art is correctly shown as soon as the monitoring is finished. That means, that with monitoring "on" the album art is finally correctly assigned after a rescan of the music folder.

That sound all strange but I tried the above combinations several times and I can clearly reproduce everything.

And don't forget, this happens only with FALC files. Wit OGG files it doesn't matter if my music folder is monitored or not (assigning of album art work always at once).

Does that give you an indication what could be the reason for the problem?

This problem still exists in 2.5.4 final.

Album art for FLAC files not saved with file monitoring on

Post by Dieter »

This problem still exists in MM 2.5.5.992
The exact problem is described in the above post of September 7, 2006.

Due To implementation and full support FLAC 1.1.3 we have made changes to FLAC Tagging and now MM will support Embedded Album art in FLAC according to FLAC Specs.
