Easy method to select a few albums to NOT synch

Post by skst »

I've got a 60G Zen, and I want to sync almost all of my music library. Unfortunately, I've got hundreds of artists, and checking each one of them manually is more than tedious. I'd like an easy way to select every artist (or genre) and then I can unselect the albums or artists I don't want.

Some ideas to achieve this:
  • Add Genre to the tree. I have fewer genres, so it's easier for me to select all of them.
  • Add a Select All button like the Uncheck All button.
  • Add a checkbox next to the Artist, Genre, and Library nodes
Or am I missing something?

Some users requested this feature like iTunes has, but an issue with MediaMonkey is that it's often used for various portable players.

In case you consistently want to not sync the same albums you could use a custom field to indicate this and with auto-playlists not include these files.

Hmm, yes, I guess that would work. But I don't understand what MM being used to sync MP3 players has to do with modifying the interface for selecting what albums/genres to sync.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post: I have a "portable player" that I sync with, and I want to easily select all of the albums (or genres) and then unselect a few of them. My request is merely for a modification to the UI of the Tools > Options > Portable Devices dialog.

I'd be happy with a "Select All" button next to the "Unselect All" button (although that's not the most elegant solution). What I would have to do now is expand the Albums tree and do {DOWN ARROW} {SPACE} {DOWN ARROW} {SPACE} {DOWN ARROW} {SPACE} about 900 times, carefully skipping the five albums I don't want to sync. I'd like to avoid that.

I would like to add my weight to this feature request. It is absolutely critical in my opinion because of the way the MM generates playlists on the portable device, i.e. you need to have albums checked to generate album playlists. There is also a bug present where if you use the 'All Music' check box to select artists, albums AND locations then when you sync with the generate playlists options for album and artist selected all that MM does is create a few playlists. These two things combined make the sync far less functional for me than it could be
