Is a mystery - my .ogg files all seem to show a genre tag, as long as the genre was not set to 'rock' in which case the tag is apparently blank.
These were ripped and recoded (to lower bit rate) with MM, and MM seems to have them listed as 'rock' in the database (not sure how I can tell if it is seeing 'rock' in the tags too) but 3rd party apps definitely seem to see the tag as blank (including portable players).
++ Update (further testing) looks like this happened to tracks which I converted using MM3.0 Alpha 4, and it seem like the 'artist' .ogg tag is missing on many of them as well, so I gues I'll move it to a MM3 bug list thread!
Track number, track name, album name, and year, all made it to the .ogg tag OK, as did the replagain numbers (right or wrong), but artist and genre seem to have vanished.
.ogg genre/artist tages missing on files converted with MM3.

Any update on this?
This is happening to me as well. Any OGG file that has the tags altered in any way loses the Artist tag out of the file.
It shows up correctly in the MM database, but if you try and play the file in any other player (I have Slimeserver running a piece of hardware) all of a sudden the artist is gone.
This first happened when I was getting album covers from Amazon, but also when I try and synchronize the tracks.
My FLAC and MP3 files are not affected by this.

Still an issue with Alpha 5
Just got Alpha 5 and the first thing I checked was the OGG file bug. It's still there. Should I be posting this error somewhere else?
