terminating startup scan ends slowly

I have MM set to do a startup scan of my music folder... it takes a while, but I can see that it does each individual file reasonably quick...
Why then, when I right click on the progress bar and select terminate, does it take about 10 seconds to finish scanning the last track?

this can get annoying when you're trying to exit the program and want it to finish.

is this a bug or just MM not telling me that it's finished that track and actually doing something else afterward?
