Track order for multi-disc albums

Post by sixfoot_pianist »

Hi!

When synchronizing to my iPod (5th gen), tracks are in the wrong order for multi-disc albums. Disc # and Track # tags are set correctly and I can sort the tracks in the correct order in MediaMonkey, but on the iPod the tracks are sorted 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, etc., resulting in the tracks from each disc being intermingled. Can this behaviour be rectified?

Many thanks.

I see the same behavior, but if I boot my iPod in to RockBox mode, they show up in the correct order. I had assumed it was an iPod problem.

I'm guessing here but I suspect the Disc # tag is not properly implemented by Apple in the iPod firmware. Is it used by iTunes? If not, then you can bet it's not used by a stock iPod.

I've used the Amazon.com tagging function built into Media Monkey, so my solution to this issue has been to follow what Amazon.com does - multi-disc sets are treated as one album and the "Disc #" tag is not used at all.

So if you've got a 2-disc set with 12 tracks on disc 1 and 11 on disc 2, the songs on disc 2 have track #'s 13-33. It's not technically "correct" I suppose but it makes sure the tracks are in the correct order.

I'm having the same issue with adding multi-disc albums to Now Playing or sending to playlists in 3.0.1.1127. Everything is tagged correctly, but the tracks are added without regard to Disc #.
