Problem with freedb

Post by noelrk »

You have the best mp3 program ever made!
It┤s beautifull, everything in just one program....

Anyway, i┤m having problems with the freedb. Whith the regular settings (server:freedb.freedb.org,anonimous..) i get a message "There was an error while connecting to freedb: cannot create connection" and my internet connection is fine. Can you help me?

I┤m sorry about my poor english (i┤m from argentina). Thanks

There can be several reasons:
- freedb was temporarily down
- you are connected to internet using proxy server - it will be supported in the next version
- try to switch between protocols (CDDBP/HTTP)

:D Sorry about the trouble, i found that the problem was the zone alarm firewall that was silently blocking the freedb connection. Thanks

Freedb connection problem

Napichin,

Usually, there's nothing to do. You just insert a CD and MM connects and retrieves the relevant information.

If you want to (partially) rule out a firewall problem, you can try connecting via http. From the Tools|Options|Freedb menu, change the protocol to HTTP, and click ok. Then try re-inserting a CD to see if the lookup occurs successfully.

If your internet connection is via a proxy server, then you'll also have to configure MM to use the proxy server. From the Tools|Options|Freedb menu, select 'Use Proxy Server', enter the server details, and click ok. Then try re-inserting a CD to see if the lookup occurs successfully.

If there's still a problem, my guess would be that you have a connection problem to the Freedb server being used, and should attempt using an alternate server. Go to http://www.freedb.org/modules.php?name= ... le&artid=9 and find another server closer to your geographic location and enter it in the 'Server Name' entry in Tools|Options|Freedb. Hopefully that'll solve the problem.
