Date Tag Editing Problem

Post by Stompa »

Version 3.0.2.1134

There appears to be a problem when editing (single track only) the date.

Try the following:
1. Right-click on a single track to display the 'Track Properties' dialog.
2. Enter a value (e.g. 2008) in the 'Date' field.
3. Click OK.
4. Right-click on a single track to display the 'Track Properties' dialog.
5. The 'Date' field now shows 08 (rather than 2008 as entered)
6. Edit another field (e.g. 'Comment').
7. Click OK.

The 'Date' field has now been cleared - it looks as though it was expecting the field to contain 2008 rather than 08.....

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks

This has to do with your windows regional date settings, not MM. Check for regional settings in the windows control panel.

That doesn't make sense (to me!). My regional settings are simply set to their defaults as far as I'm aware. But even if they weren't, why would (or should) that affect this? The problem appears to be a combination of the fact that:

1. If you enter a year as 2008 it gets accepted, if you enter it as 08 it doesn't.
2. When you've successfully entered a year it gets displayed as 08, thereby causing it to subsequently not be accepted upon further editing of a different tag.

Well I have no idea if that is the problem or not, but if you want to compare your regional settings to mine (which date works fine), check screenshot...

BTW, MM uses the various windows settings in localization to determine how to display a variety of different things.

Thanks, I have:

Short date: 20/05/08
Long date: 20 May 2008

so I can't see anything there that might cause MM to behave differently.

Well that's fair enough, but you'd expect it to permit dates to be entered in the same format as they're displayed irrespective of any regional settings.

When you say yours works fine does it:

1. display the date as: 2008 or 08?
2. accept dates input as 2008, 08 or both?

Thanks

Stompa,

for next release i'll make an update that year will be always showed up as YYYY (if you'll enter year only into Date field).

Thanks, that sounds like an excellent idea. To be honest I'd never even considered trying to enter a full date (despite the fact that the field is called 'Date' rather than 'Year'!), since an album typically just has a year of release - though full dates do appear to work. The tooltips though do imply that you should just enter the year.
