MM 2.3 RC4 - Auto-Tag from Amazon

Post by Lowlander »

It worked the first couple of times.

But now it sends the folder the song is in as song information for lookup. This doesn't result in the desired results.

Restarting MM doesn't solve the problem.

It somehow doesn't seem to do it for all albums, but there doesn't seem to be a logic to which gets used right and which not.

It depends on the already present information you have for the tracks to be tagged. If album name is present for all the tracks to be tagged, it can be used, otherwise folder name is tried because it can often be quite correct. In case nothing of this works well, you have to enter the expected artist or album (or both) name and MM does the rest.

In my case all track info is present (including artist, title, album).

Do all the selected tracks have the same album and album artist names? MM can use this information only if it's consistent this way.

I'm actually selecting one track at the time. I have tried with several tracks and all have needed info in the tags (I'm actually just trying to get the album art).

It has this behavior for two different machines with independent databases.

It seems that the first track you lookup works normally. Any subsequent track from a any (same as first or another album) album uses the folder name the song is in as parameter for the amazon search.

After some more testing we found that there really are problems in this, will be fixed.

Thanks,

Thanks

When selecting all the tracks in an album and using the auto-tag from amazon to save the album art (as well as year and label) MM doesn't seem to save it to all tracks.
MM will show the amount of tracks to be tagged (this btw takes quite long over wireless connection). After the tags are tagged I will run thru the tracks and it doesn't display the album art on all tracks. (Track properties also don't show album art).
After several attempts with auto-tag from amazon I will have all tracks successfully updated with album art.

My main purpose of posting this is to see if other people experience similar things. It doesn't happen all the time and I want to rule out that my specific setup (wireless connection to music on network attached hdd) isn't the cause.

BTW, I finally tested the new MM 2.3 at home with the above mentioned setup and it seems to work well.

Lowlander, I've experience a similar issue with the Release Year tag. It may have happened with album art as well, though I probably didn't notice it:
sadao wrote:Another odd issue.

Every now and then, when updating tags from amazon, the release year for track number one does not get updated. It's the only field, and it's only for track #1. I can't reproduce it. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
If I run tag from amazon again the offending track will be re-tagged properly.

A problem I have encountered is that MM doesn't always select all tracks to update (in the auto-tag dialog). This seems to be the case when the track info doesn't exactly match or when the same track (exactly same info) exists multiple times.

In my case I first update all track info before selecting which version I will keep. This often means I have the exact same track twice (often different bitrate and size, but all song tags are the same.

So far so good in RC5. It now uses the available info in the tags again! Thx

I'm still experiencing problems unfortunately.

artist: 311
abum: 311
search query: folder name

artist: 311
album: Evolved
search query: Evolved

artist: Aaliyah
album: Aaliyah
search query: Aaliyah Aaliyah

artist: Reba McEntire
album: Room To Breathe
search query: Reba McEntire Room To

The search query is what MM shows in the auto tag dialog when it starts searching. As you see only the third one worked completely correct. The first takes the folder name instead of tags. The second one forgets the artist (other albums from the same artist exhibit the same problem). And the last one cuts the album name short.

Another problem is when I tag a song that is not available with album art. In this case the external hdd where the song is located is not connected. So MM can't write the song to tags (my default) nor to the directory.

MM doesn't give any info that the save action failed (I assume it did fail do to lack of availability of hdd). An info/warning box would be welcome here.

As for search terms, it is intentional. MM doesn't send whole artist/album fields because there are often errors, non-relevant information, etc. For that reason it generally speaking only sends first two words of any field and removes characters that aren't letters (this could be improved for future versions so that numbers are kept in cases they belong to artist/album title).

Well that explains the last one. But the first two cases remain.
