No CD Disc number

Post by DazB »

Hi,

Apologies if these have been fixed in the development version.
  1. When I scan the tracks from a CD no disc number is assigned to the album. Whilst it isn't possible for MM to know what it is I would have thought a default of 1 would be preferable.
  2. If I have already ripped the tracks from this CD and I select all then edit the properties the empty disc value of the CD tracks isn't seen as a difference to a value in the ripped tracks misleading me into thinking that a disk number is indeed present.
Edit: Adding the disc number prior to adding to the library doesn't result in the disk number being present afterwards.

Dazb,

In answer to your questions:

1. I think it would be annoying to have CD #1 assigned to all CDs that have only 1 CD, but that's my opinion...

2. Mass editing of properties is designed so that when a property is empty in all tracks, the property appears empty. On the other hand, if all tracks or some of the tracks have a single value, that value will be displayed so that you can easily apply it to all of the tracks.

3. We'll keep this in mind when we tackle http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=2624

Please don't automatically have CD #1 assigned to all CDs that have only 1 CD. I work hard to keep that from happening.

Please do! I work hard to have all my CDs numbered properly, consistently.

And when you tackle

3.0.1.1120 How to enter Disc# when ripping?
[Rusty:] We hope to make this more intuitive in MM 3.1.

:D It sounds like the solution is to have the option to have it done either way.

Agreed - I'm baffled as to why Rip CD doesn't just have Discnumber (and Discqty) input controls, to be filled as not as we please.

Same for other CD properties too - Album and Album Artist.

Note that DiscNumber is filled when it is included within CD-Text.

Hi,

Note that some of us maintain a local FreeDB structure and never use CD Text...

I find CD-TEXT is present on <10% of commercial CDs.
