I'm running 2.4RC1 on Windows XPSP2 with a 40GB Photo iPod. The problems I describe below occur with either a USB2 or FireWire cable. All files are MP3.
1. If I try to send my entire 42 GB music collection from MM to my PhotoiPod, it copies everything over to the iPod. From the iPod I can see that the whole 40GB is taken up. However, I experience the following problems: (1) No songs appear on the iPod (i.e., under the normal menus, (2) There's no way to cancel out once MM gives you an "unable to copy" warning once I exceeded 40GB. I had to hit escape 1,200 times to ignore the message.
At one point after overloading the iPod I got an "Exception EOSError in module d_ipod.dll" after quitting, but I haven't tried to recreate it at this point. I don't have a log for you, but if I experience it again I'll send more info.
If I just select a playlist or three, everything is groovy. I know, I know...don't load that many, and the Gold version (which I expect to invest in shortly) allows one to create playlists of a certain size.
2. Like others, I also see two d_ipod.dll files under the device options as others have mentioned. I've only used iTunes on the freshly restored iPod to turn off the "launch automatically when plugged in" crap. I've not reopened it since. The multiple DLLs don't seem to cause any problems.
2.4RC1/iPod Photo issues with synching too many files.
