[1476]Autoplaylist: Albums split under show art+detail #9144

Even though Mediamonkey devs resolved a major grouping bug recently (http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8946), another grouping bug remains with autoplaylists using user-defined sorting criteria under the fileview "Show Art with Details." Here's a youtube link demonstrating this bug across different musical genres and the different workarounds attempted: http://youtu.be/y1Y39rQbVuI.

Under the music node > genre, the albums are displayed fine, notice the sort order here (artwork and summary):

Music > Genre > Classical

However, under playlists > classical (an autoplaylist), the album is first displayed as split (using the autoplaylist's sorting order):

Playlists > Genre > Classical (autoplaylist)

For this album, as all other "split" albums, the following tag fields are identical between the tracks that demarcate the split: <album artist>, <artist> and <album>.

Here is the autoplaylist setting that has worked well for me since the days of mediamonkey 2.5.5:

Attempted workarounds:
1) Editing the autoplaylist sorting criteria: Replacing "Album Artist" with "Artist" under "sort order" does not fix this issue. Nor does setting the value of "Disc" -> "1" solves the problem.

2) Clicking "Artwork" or "Summary" sorting bars in the autoplaylist -> Album is displayed as one, but sorting criteria is momentarily lost. After refreshing (F5), album is seen as split again when the autoplaylist uses the user-defined sorting order.

Bottomline: This problem is not specific to the classical genre, as all genres are affected with this autoplaylist grouping bug (see video).

So does it split in the Classical Music node when sorting on Album Artist > Album > Track#? Are you saying there is a differing Disc# for tracks on the Album?

I also seem unable to reproduce. Tracks are grouped on Album, but sorted wrong as Disc# isn't used in sort.

No, the disc# field was originally empty for the album I used as an example. I filled it just to see if that caused any issues, which it didn't. In fact, there does not seem to be any bias with respect to the album's genre, i.e. random albums under non-classical genres are similarly affected. Again, the two below have the same values for <album artist>, <album> and <artist> fields. <Disc#> is empty. These splits only happen when browsing through my collections under the Playlist node using autoplaylists I've made, many of which I created during Mediamonkey 2.5.5. I had to refresh one sorting setting during the mediamonkey3 transition, but they behaved like they always have until mediamonkey4.

Try File > Maintain Library with full optimization. Maybe a fixable database corruption is causing this issue. As you're sorting on Album Artist it also may be this: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=8599

It also occurs when the autoplaylist is sorted by <Album> and then <Track#>:

As for optimization, I took all of these screen captures not long after upgrading the db from MM3 -> MM4 (~1 hour). I'll try full optimization when I get back home.

Maintain library will full optimization did not work. Sorting the classical autoplaylist by artist instead of album artist did not work. According the MP3Tag, all of the albums I used as examples above have their <Album Artist> field filled with the values seen in Summary under the view "show art with details".

No, the problem still exists under 1470.

I made a screencast of the problem trying a variety of earlier suggestions such as manually editing the tags in Mediamonkey, etc. Please view the vid at 480p or larger. Each time I used a suggestion the end result is the same: The album is still displayed as split. On the last example, an album is grouped fine in one autoplaylist but is displayed as split in another. All of the sorting criteria from the autoplaylist advanced tab is shown. I never had this problem in my extensive use of Mediamonkey (beginning at 2.5.5) until the release of version 4.

I am using 1470 (with Gold).

I too have noticed Auto-playlists doing some kooky things with 4. (Under Art With Details view.) For instance, I have a "Recently Added" auto-playlist. I sort by Date Added (Z... A) and Album (A... Z). But sometimes the albums are split weirdly, e.g., track 1 taking up its own slot, the rest of the album immediately below, taking up a new slot. The problem seems to come and go, however.

Also -- and this may be a bit off-topic; if so, I apologize -- I've noticed (and posted about it regarding an earlier iteration) that, on my computer, multi-disc albums (in which each disc shares the same album name and is distinguished using the Disc# tag) sorted by Path are split into separate entries when viewed in Art With Details mode. This never happened for me in any version of MM prior to 4.

I find it unfortunate. Separating multi-disc albums by disc is a concession to CD's and CD-ripping and should not, IMO, play any part in how albums show up in MM -- nor did it prior to 4.

A couple things I discovered in the thread I started on this topic:

(1) Not everyone has this problem, which perplexes me. (Could it be a problem on my end? But... how?)

(2) I can correct the problem by clicking the "Path" field once (inverting the display order). Then the multi-disc albums only take up one slot. I can then click the "Path" field again, righting the display order, and all is well with the world -- until I move to another folder (or reselect the same folder).

wow, another user has this problem sorting under advanced autoplaylists. At least I'm not going crazy :)
