Hi,
I would like to propose a change request to the current play count algorithm. I would like to request for people to reply to this post if you think it is a good idea or a bad idea. If enough people agree with me, hopefully the developers will make the change, otherwise it is fine the way it is. Thanks for your cooperation.
Currently MediaMonkey only increments the play counter if the song is played completely. If you are like me, I often skip songs without completing it. It doesn't mean I do not like the song, it simply means I want to listen to a different song. Some songs are also very long and I often like the first 2 or 3 minutes of it. Some songs have annoying endings as well. I was using PlayerPro player and it incremented the counter after 30 seconds or so. I would like to request the change of the counter to increment after 1 or 2 minutes into into the song. I do not think this would hurt in anyways but it can be very helpful for certain people who does not like to listen to the complete track. I have some programming knowledge and I believe the change to the code should not be a major level of effort but it is more of what the majority wants. Of course I could be wrong depending on how the code is implemented. Thank you.

Re: Play Count Change Request
I want it counted at full play, skip counter counts skips already.

Although I think i understand your reasoning I too prefer to have the count incremented upon completion

Re: Play Count Change Request
Hi,
Over the years of MMW developing at first it was increased on Play, than due th complains we increased to be on 1/3, next we we implemented at least 1/3 played and increased on track end, than we changed to increase on end (introducing skip counter) and finally we also corrected this for videos(Movies) to be on 91%+ where user can skip credits and still have playcount increased.
MMA follow last MMW implementation. Personally I like it that way. especially as rating also takes big role in my predictions of track quality. So when track have 2.5 or less rating and 2+ Skips I tend to avoid that track.

Re: Play Count Change Request
Regarding songs that have annoying endings, you can modify that track's "stop time" in the Properties. I haven't actually used this, but ISTR reading that MediaMonkey will stop at the end of that track. Is that true? Does it increase the play count in that case?
I would use that feature if it could be defeated when the track is followed by its natural neighbor on the album; that way I could play an album all the way thru and get between-track banter and whatever, but play the track on shuffle and have it end (and begin) where the song proper takes place.

Re: Play Count Change Request
Some of us get interrupted so often that we are pausing songs all the time. One song play ends up being counted twice. That sounds like a simple bug. I am for one play, one count, regardless of where in the cycle that the count increments. I am using the latest, MM 4.1.1.1703. Just my thought.

You should try Played Date & Counter script which was intended for this purpose: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =2&t=55222greenblack3000 wrote:I would like to propose a change request to the current play count algorithm. I think it works fine with MM4, but I'm not sure how it behaves with videos and non-library track files.
Let me know, since I'm still using MM3 and was absent for 2 years in this forum.

Re: Play Count Change Request
I am running MM 4.1.5 1711 debug version. The play count increases and last played as seen in the NowPlaying section changes to "Today x:xx am/pm," exactly after 5 minutes into the song. This happens irrespective of whether the song is 6 minutes long or 60 minutes long. This does not agree with any the of the methods described by Peke on post above.
