rip cd = machine restart???

Post by thefamousnomo »

hello people

just started using mm, liking it so far. freedb can be a bit dodgy with tagging, but like the amazon tag feature.

2 things;

why is the preset proxy ip prefixed with 'ftp='? freedb not http?

<serious>whenever i attempt to rip any tracks off cd, the machine shows a bsod for a split second, then the machine restarts!</serious>

i am (trying to) use mm at work, but still use musicmatch at home as it was bundled with my mp3 player. would like to make the switch but the above serious issue makes me wary.....

any ideas?

thanx

Try to create a debug log as described in the bug forum when trying to rip.

FreeDB isn't the greatest as it is based on what user add. But it's free and helps MediaMonkey stay cheap.

There are scripts in the scripts forum to lookup information with other services. These are all for after ripping, but you might find them useful.

ok, reinstalled aspi layer! machine no longer restarts but 'performs an illegal operation' when trying to rip. again, the debug version does this on start up, log as follows;

You can check the BSOD message if you disable the automatic restarting. This can be done through the Windows Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup&repair settings > Settings > System errors > Automaticly reboot (uncheck this).

Then you can search the internet for the error message (or even better, the error code 0x.....).

A similar strange thing:
If a clean config is used, MediaMonkey sets the Use Proxy on and sets it to "gopher=proxy.khbo.be" on port "80".
What's gopher got to do with this :-? And the real port is 8081 instead of 80.
Does MM get this info from Windows (or Internet Explorer)? If so, then there is an error in that functionality, because IE is right (proxy.khbo.be:8081).

no longer restarts or bsod's after aspi update, just performs an illegal operation

im running win98se on work box :-)

* additional *

behind the illegal op box i noticed another smaller dialogue box stating 'drive e: does not contain track 1'. and it def does, along with another 11 tracks!!!

really want to use this software!

any ideas?

You are right, this happens when advanced proxy configuration in IE is used, it will be fixed in the next release.

do i get a prize, an e-cookie perhaps?

thanx guys! like the product!

ps. found that the only way to rip tracks is to disable proxy altogether in ie, can live with this until next release ;-)

re: rip problem windows 98. Old saved DrWatson report -

The application overflowed its stack. This is typically caused by unrestricted recursion or an exception inside an exception handler.
