How to Backup and Recover a MediaMonkey Library
Updated by Russell Samuels on Oct 17, 2019

Database Location

The MediaMonkey database file (mm.db) are stored as described at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/16

Backup

To backup the library, you should back up the database file whenever you backup other files on your system to ensure that hard disc failure will not result in any data loss.

If you need to recover the Library from backup, you can recover your database as follows:

  1. Install a copy of MediaMonkey to the new hard drive or PC. Don't start MediaMonkey after installation completes.
  2. When MediaMonkey isn't running, copy your backup database to the default database location.
  3. Start MediaMonkey
  4. At this point, your database will be recovered, however, if the music has been moved to a different drive or location, or Windows has been reinstalled, it will all be greyed out. To correct this, see: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/92

Options

Note that these instructions are for backing up the MediaMonkey Database file. This does not include your actual media files. For that we recommend any regular backup software.
