Something is already programmed, it won't probably appear in the next version (1.2), because there were other problems to solve, but it should be in 1.3. It will be solved by plug-ins, so any future format will be supported. :)

.ape files

by La Howard » Wed Jun 05, 2002 9:58 am

I have been using Songs-DB for quite a while now, and really think it is great for mp3 files. I have just reripped all by CDs to .ape files as I like the lossless format. Like cdx, I think that as hard drives get bigger and bigger, we will move to better formats than mp3, and .ape and ogg are both formats that will become more and more important. You will make a great music manager even better by introducing .ape and ogg compatability.

Thanks for the program

Something like a mailing list is already here - go to the news page and there is a link to Songs-DB Yahoo group. All new release infos are posted there.

For a general discussion about Songs-DB this forum is here. I think it is enough, if you don't, then let me know.

Jiri:

Fast answer! A good program and a better dev!
I think that a mailing list would be great to announce updates of the program and talk about it.
The script idea is very good. And the sooner support for ogg and ape will be great, too.
I'll be waiting for the updates....
Thank you for all.

The support for other formats (particularly ogg) will be added as soon as possible.

I don't think it's a crazy idea to use plug-ins for new formats. 8) However WimAmp compatible plugins, which are used now for playback, have very limited use and would need to be extended for this purpose, but it can be done in the future.

Your request for managing wavs is quite special and so again (as I wrote in other posts here) it could be solved by scripting features that will be added in the version 1.2 (very likely).

Format request (ogg vorbis and ape) and other ...

The program is amazing, and nothing better than add support to others formats, like ogg and ape. Ogg, I think, will be the replacement for mp3s and ape is a lossless compression format that works very well (flac support will be good, too).
A crazy idea: the program could read the inputs plug-ins and load the spec for a new format!
The other request is a way to manage wav files. I have a lot of samples, and to organize I need to put in a tree of folders, with 4-5 leves. The idea will be all the samples have artist tag "sample", album tag the name of the last directory and title tag the name of the file... ┐How can I do it?
And again, the program is great. With the spec that have now, is the better management program that I find.
