No, but you could enable Close to Tray (Tools > Options > General) and close to Tray.

Yes..after this crazy problem, I found out about Monkey 4 with inbuilt Upnp server..I am impressed (where was I when it came out..lol)...works well on DLNA/Upnp client. Two thumbs up!

Your best to upgrade to MediaMonkey 4 and use the build in DLNA/UPnP server to stream music and videos to a PS3.

I am not sure if this forum is still active..but I will still try posting.

I am PS3 Media Server user and with MM 3.1.24 plugin and Java 1.7.0_02, I have an issue with new PS3 version 1.50.1-SB58.

All mp3 audio file playlist (all files are local) using MM are not showing correct duration.. not sure why? Anyone else having same problem on their boxes? Any ideas??

Thanks in advance.

installed the mm.jar and a couple of the other .jar files, and the best i could get was the media monkey folder to show up with no files in it.

to be clear, will this allow me to organize my media and flip through the album covers like the actual software? i don't really see the use of it otherwise b/c my collection is extremely organized.

Okay...maybe I am a bit of an idiot. I guess there is a shuffle feature on the PS3...I thought I looked and searched the Internet about that. So what I did was take a few of my auto play lists and add all the songs to a new standard play list. That should get me 95% of what I want. The only drawback I see is that if I add new songs to my library or change song ratings I have to manually refresh the standard play lists. That should not be too big of a deal. (another drawback is I need my computer on to play music...hmmm...maybe a way to sync playlists and the songs directly to the PS3 would be cool)

Thanks botijo!!

Brent...now listening to my "Rock - 4 Star Plus" play list on shuffle mode on my PS3!!

Thanks for the follow up. I figure this feature would not be a piece of cake. Some of this would not be a big issue if the mp3 player on the PS3 did not suck so bad...really is it too much to add in a random/shuffle feature? One thing I did was to export my autoplaylists to m3u playlists and then imported those. At least I could then see a snapshot of my play lists. Most of my play lists are sorted (date or artist) but I most of the time I play them in shuffle mode with MM.

I downloaded the source code for PS3MediaServer thinking I might take a look there and what kinds of things I could come up with...but job and life have gotten in the way and I have not even got to the point of being able to compile the code. I really like MM on my computer for organizing my music collection and I like the idea of having my PS3 connected to my entertainment system so hopefully I can figure out a solution that works for me.

At the moment there is no interface between for autoplaylist. Documentation is scarce, so I would have need to use custom algorithms. Also, autoplaylists can also refer other autoplaylist, and getting a second look to an autoplaylist can yield another set of tracks, so it is not easy to do...

I was really excited about the information I found on this thread. I downloaded the PS3 Media Server and it was working with my PS3 out of the box. I dropped in the jar files and after trying a few times and then realizing that I had to click the SAVE button I saw the MediaMonkey Library folder!!

I clicked Playlists and...huh...where are all my playlists??? It is right that this tool will only provide access to standard Playlists and not "AutoPlaylists"? Almost all of my playlists are AutoPlaylists and getting access to these playlists from my PS3 was the feature that I was most looking for. Is there any chance that this plug in would be able to access AutoPlaylists? (I can understand where this would be more difficult...a regular playlist is probably just a list of files in the database but an AutoPlaylists likely has to be calculated on the fly).

Are there other options to get access to my AutoPlaylists?

just downloaded ps3mediaplayer and this plugin and love it. one requests, is there anyway to make the genre have a play all? it does seem playlists and maybe folders can only have 255 files but it would be nice. anyway thanks for the plugin.

OK. Thanks for your input. At least I know I'm in the wrong ballpark.

The UPNP A/V / DLNA way works like this:
  • Server is announced in the local network
  • Client connects, user browses the "Content directory"
  • User selects a song/video/picture
  • Client downloads the item from the server, usually via HTTP
  • Client renders the item (shows it on screen, plays music)
This method is not for distributing what you listen in your computer to other rooms. Focus is on stored media. And the server has no control on the client. It is useful for other things that are not computers, like TVs and game consoles.
There are tools that lets you stream what you hear over the network to other computers, but unfortunately, I am not familiar with those.

You are right that PS3MediaServer (PMS) is not only for PS3. I use that in order to stream to my Roku Soundbridge and Xbox360 (although I am not convinced this works great for audio). From what I know, it also works with selected Sony Bravias, Philips Aureas, and other connected TVs.

PMS partly implements an UPNP A/V MediaServer (it does not do everything it should, but it works most of the time). A subset of UPNP MediaServer is called DLNA server. This means that a client (UPNP A/V MediaRenderer) can get the files from the server.

As discussed in other post, this does not remotely controls other computer or device. Like the sharing in WMP 11 (I do not have Windows 7), the clients should not be able to control anything on the server.

I hope this answers all of your questions.
