What I meant was to have a warning appearing before the auto tag windows appear.

The idea is not to warn the user that he will change a large set of files.

But more to warn him that:
1) auto tag from web: Must not be used on multiple albums at a time.
2) auto tag from filename: Different files/album/folders might need different masks.

Doesn't it already? I've seen warning messages if I did want to continuing tagging on a large set of files. I don't know about Auto-Tag from Filename as I don't use it on large sets of files.

I think MM should display a warning if the user tries to auto tag a large selection of files and/or containing several/lots of different albums.
With a little explanation in the warning.

That could prevent accidents like this among the new users. As they are not familiar with how the function works.

Yep, you're looking in the wrong place. see http://yfrog.com/65previewhhp

But in any case the original poster was talking about auto-tag from filename (not auto-organize) which has a totally different preview window (shows a preview for each field).

That's not the preview window. The preview window is the Auto-Organize Files window itself where it lists all the tracks and the new and old path.

I assume your issue is that MediaMonkey is missing the if not true clause in $if(<Disc#>,\Disc <Disc#>). I can't test right now but that might be a bug.

This is my auto-organize template:

\\FILESERVER\Music\<Genre>\$if(<Album Artist@1>=0-9,#,$if(<Album Artist>=Various Artists,VA,<Album Artist:1>))\<Album Artist> - <Album> [<Composer>]$if(<Disc#>,\Disc <Disc#>)\<Track#> - <Title>

This is what preview screen looks with a track that has no disc# info:

This is what preview screen looks with a track that has disc# info:
Afbeelding

Although it looks like that, it organizes my file well.

Bug or syntax error?

I will post a screenshot from home tonight.

Just to sum it up: preview window is weird, but the auto-organize work fine.

Note that it might also be something wrong in my string, but it seems ok to me.

If you can reliably reproduce some problem with the preview window, I really hope that you will report it as a bug so that it can be fixed.

I've never seen the preview window give the wrong preview. Can you give a sample mask where this happens with?

Just for information, the preview windows sometimes displays a wrong preview!

Thanks to you nohitter, I was able to re-organize my collections using your advice.

However, to make sure it would be done right, I did some tests first.

I found out the preview window to not be accurate in some cases, especially when dealing with the Disc tag (or rather when there is NO Disc tag filled).
Eventually I did the test and it worked great.

So my suggestion rather than trusting the preview window, is put some folders in a test place, and play with that.

Lets be clear, you "hacked up" your music folder, not MM. MM did exactly what you told it to, you should make sure of what you're doing before you actually do it!

You can read about Auto-organize and auto-tag from filename here:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/f ... ormats.htm

Please, for the sake of your sanity and your music library, look at the preview window before you make changes!

It's probably me, because I don't know WTF I AM DOING, but I just wanted to Auto-Tag my music folders (I'm using the free version by the way) and now ALL OF MY MUSIC is labelled with the Artist name where the Title should be, and vice versa. Some songs are even labelled with the Artist name in BOTH fields and I can't get it back to the way it was now. My entire music folder is hacked up and I am very displeased and FRUSTRATED! It should not be this complicated! Please help me. :(
