changed white noise *.wav files to *.ac3,.. as you mentioned that those files were dts encoded... now works like a charm.....saved me from pulling out all my hair
Most DTS audio files have the wav extension, and will sound like white noise if the player does not interpret the DTS audio properly.

What I'd like to know is HOW did you get MM to see the renamed *.AC3 files and then play them..... when there is NO option to IMPORT that file extension?????

cheers

How can you import *.ac3 or *.dts files when there is no file type to select in the file types box...
when i try to scan dts or ac3 files in, monkey just says
"did not import 2 files (did not match import criteria)"

If for some reason you can't use the directory tree to access the add/rescan feature try this way, simply hit the insert button on your keyboard and the info box will pop up. Put a check next to the folder containing the wav files then at the bottom of the box you will see a section called add file types if wav is not selected all you need to do is select it and hit ok. If wav is selected you most likely need to reinstall.

No way of doing a scan/resan for mm. I can scan with my a/v packages, or play in the various players I have, but no way to scan/rescan at either the directory level or individual file level. And, so far, it's any wav file that doesn't play. Just 6, but none of them.

Not sure if you are saying you can't play any wav files or just a specific wav file, but go to my computer in the explorer tree and navigate to the folder where the wav file is stored. Once at the folder right click the mouse and select add/rescan tracks to library, this will cause popup box with the option to add file types. My guess is that wav is deselected. Select wav from the list of file types and you should be all set.

CDEX was able to open/convert them, but not make them playable in mm. Odd they didn't play in zoom player, though.

Was hoping to play them in mm, that's my player of choice. But, ok, at least I know why they won't play. Old album rips. I'll have to cull them and move them to another folder.

Thanks.

Those Files are not WAVE Files but they are Surround DTS 5.1 Files and that is the reason why they are not playing.
Rename those Files to .DTS (maybe .AC3) and Try to Play them in Video Player apps like MPCHC (Media Player Classic Home Cinema) from K-Lite Codec Pack.

Here are 2 codec details from vlc, haven't had a chance to track down the other programs, yet.

First one is quadrphrenia:

Type: Audio
Codec: dts
Channels: 3F2R/LFE
Sample rate: 44100 Hz
Bitrate: 1411 kb/s

Holst, the planets:

Stream 0
Type: Audio
Channels: 3F2R/LFE
Sample rate: 44100 Hz
Bitrate: 1411 kb/s

Not much info from it. Going to get more. Tried to move one of the wav plug-ins from the vlc to mm, but the file names start with lib, so mm doesn't recognize them.

fast way to find out what is the trouble.

get cdex ripper. then open the wav file with it like you are going to convert it to an mp3.

as soon as you click on the convert button if it is a file format other then wav or one that is corupt the player
will give you an alert saying it is not an wav file but is an....... file or will say it can not decode it meaning its corupted.

or if you want to try you could get audacity. try to import the file in there to edit it. audacity will tell you if it can or can not open the file. if it can not it then gives you the chance to open as a raw format file you can then play it and save it
as a wav file by a different name, so you can then retag it later.

but if audacity shows you a flat line in the raw format then best thing to is settle for a lessor quailty of song and play it in
vlc and record it with audacity so you get a new recording of it. then save it as a wav file.. you do know of course one minute of song in wav format takes about 10 mb's of space. that can eat up the hard drives fast. 8)
