I've done some research and figured it out, my MMA is playing continuously without hick ups now. The cause was in my WiFi-router. I have set the Beacon Interval to a higher value once to do some testing and never set it back to the default of the WiFi-router. The default of 100 ms suffices to have proper playback, this was set to 1000 ms. This must trigger some mechanisms in Android to shut down WiFi or something? If I run into anything related to this again I'll post it.

Beacon interval This is the time interval between beacon transmissions. The time at which a node (AP or station when in Ad-hoc) must send a beacon is known as Target Beacon Transmission Time (TBTT). Beacon interval expressed in Time Unit (TU). It is a configurable parameter in the AP and typically configured as 100 TU.[1]

I can't reproduce, when the screen turns off UPnP play continues on MMA 0087 for me.

Why not just sync some songs to the memory on your phone or its sd card then use mma's widget to play music it will show widget on locked screen so you do not have to keep unlocking it. The way your doing it now is always going to be cut off as android cuts the connection when the screen locks. If there is an keep connection app on the play google store then it might be the thing to use i dont think mma can do it.

Android Sleep policy, screen timeout, using UPnP problems

Playing songs from my MMW library through UPnP on my Android device works pretty nice. The problem I run into is that as soon as the screen times out, MMA stops playing music from my MMW library. As soon as I turn on the screen, playback resumes. I can fix this somewhat by setting the screen timeout to 30 minutes, but this is not desirable. Also, I have set the sleep policy of my WiFi off. It is on always, looking at the Wifi settings. I can ping my phone with the screen timed out but the times returned are high or it times out often.

Has anyone experienced this, and what can be done to make the phone playback continuously?

I use an HTC Desire HD equipped with Cyanogenmod 7.2
