Ok, the lag/delay problem I've experienced seems to be solved by uninstalling MediaMonkey Codec Pack and installing K-Lite Codec Pack (Basic), so MediaMonkey's codec pack can improve on this. Still, I can feel and see a one-second lag--any previous iTunes user can feel the difference. I don't know whether video playback is still considered new for MediaMonkey, but I think it's something that can be fixed through an update. Also, I find that the MediaMonkey's Seek bar (where you drag to view different points in the video) is buggy. While choosing a point in the Seek bar, the marker would jump back to the original point in the video you're viewing before going back to the point you've selected.
I'm glad though to have fixed the 2-6 second lag on video playback though as this means I will probably ditch iTunes in favor of an application with more features and more potential.

I need to learn more about codecs and manage/convert my entire library to a favorable codec (if that even makes sense).

Thanks a lot, Lowlander.

You should capture the lag in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

Oh ok, sorry. I am using the latest version of MediaMonkey (4.0.7.1511) on Windows 8. I did some further searching and did indeed install MediaMonkey Codec Pack. Now I can open the file and play it, but when I go to specific times in the video, I notice a significant delay (which can be anywhere from 1-4 seconds) each time I view another point in the video. When I view a video that I could play without any codecs (a .wmv video, for example), there is no delay as expected. I'm guessing videos that require additional codecs from a codec pack causes the video to "load" slower than ones that are already supported.

What codecs does MediaMonkey support in terms of mp4 files? Is there a way for me to "convert" the video from one codec to another and/or eliminate the lag/delay when viewing a video? I come from iTunes and have used that program for many years--I don't recall ever having delays--viewing videos on that program was like viewing a video on VLC Media Player--it was always lag-free if I jump from different times of the video.

Thanks!

It means you may have to install QuickTime or the MediaMonkey Codec Pack: http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brows ... odec-pack/ to be able to play MP4 files.

Lowlander just gave you the link because your question is lacking information needed to give you more direct answer.

You dont say what version of mediamonkey or ov windows that you have.
We need that to be more direct.

Also check the link in my signature to the monkeys helpful messages page, and look at item 14 for more of idea on needed information.

But off hand i'd say you might need the mediamonkey codec pack?

Sorry and no offense, but that is too technical for me. Can someone simply this a bit for me to understand? I literally just spend 5 minutes reading over and over.

mp4 file in library (monitored folder) not playing

by mindstormer » Fri Dec 28, 2012 8:44 pm

Hi, I'm new to MediaMonkey and tried to play an mp4 file on the application. I copied the video to the monitored folder (so it is in the library) and it shows up when I select Video on the left navigation pane. However, nothing happens when I double-click or select "Play Now."

Thanks a lot.
