Your other option is to set the sync settings to automatically convert tracks to a format that's supported by the device.

MMA can only play what is natively supported by the device. Other Apps may come with their own codec and thus be able to play files that MMA can't. You could in Options set to not use MMA for video playback at which point it should ask what App to use for video playback.

After a failed attempt to play the video you could send a debug log from MMA as that may give the developers more insight (at least on unsupported formats it should state that instead of blank screen).

did you go to the options in your mma program and click on the send debug files? that will give report of what your system is doing to the developers and allow them to see if they can fix it or if it is something the tablet os has to fix. 8)

Hardware: Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, 32GB, media files on SanDisk 64GB microSD card
OS: Android 4.3, stock not rooted
MediaMonkey 1.04.0189

I have several music video files (each <50MB). scanning for media finds the files and lists them as videos. They are all H.264 encoded, file extension .m4v. Some play in MMA and some do not, even when located in the same folder. when attempting to play them, the screen goes black, with no sound or video. touching the screen shows the player controls and the correct name for the file. the native Samsung video player displays a dialog saying "sorry, this video cannot be played .

The same file plays on MM Windows 8 RT. The Android MX Player app plays the same file with no problem. I renamed the file .mp4, and had no change in behavior.

I uninstalled and reinstalled MMA with no effect. I reformatted the card, made a clean copy of the source media, reinstalled and re indexed MMA with no change.

any suggestions appreciated.
