Howdy!
I don't mind sharing this info at all -- hope it helps someone else.
I just updated the ticket to report that, as of three days ago, my Windows 7 machine is now working nearly perfectly with the Marantz AV8801. I'm still running the latest 4.1.3.1708 debug build.
To recap: this is a fully patched Windows 7 running on an iMac in my media room. (The Windows 8.1 machine is my main machine in my office -- both have full MM 4 licenses.) I first tried MM -> Marantz AV8801 on my Win 8.1 office machine and got the crash (divide by zero error in the debug build). I later tried the debug build repeatedly on my Windows 7 machine with the same results. I applied the "PlayTo" patch on both machines (despite the fact that it is only for Windows 8 -- I figured it was harmless to try it on Windows 7) and rebooted. That had no effect -- MM still crashed when I selected the Marantz as the target device and pressed [ENTER]. When I restarted MM, that setting stuck and it would crash again -- but in the debug build, the "divide by 0" message box was not modal, so MM continued to run.
On Tuesday, I tried the Windows 7 machine again without making any changes, and lo and behold -- no crash at startup, and it turned on the Marantz and played perfectly! I have no idea what changed -- it's possible there was *another* reboot, or the Marantz might have been in a different state than before. But since then, I stopped and restarted MM multiple times, and it still plays.
The only glitch I've seen on Windows 7 is that sometimes MM will stop playing after 4 or 5 songs in the playlist, always between songs. I have to press Play to get it to resume. I haven't figured out a pattern there yet.
I will try Windows 8.1 again this weekend. That machine is in my home office, far from the Marantz so I need someone in the house to watch it for me. I'll reboot the Windows 8.1 system one more time and see if the patch makes a difference, and I'll also try Windows Media Player "play to" as you asked.
Thanks again for a fantastic product. My wife is thrilled because now she can quickly choose music to play on our AV system without laboriously scrolling through a list of alphabetized titles and we're rediscovering music we haven't played for 15 year ("Twin Peaks" soundtrack, anyone?). MM+Marantz AV8801 also plays FLAC 96khz/24 just fine, so I'm on the hunt for more HD music tracks!
