Mediamonkey Sync Issues
I am still having issues with syncing my Mediamonkey for Windows Version 4.1.15.1827 to my Samsung Note 4 using Mediamonkey Android Beta Version 1.3.0.0673 running Android Version 6.0.1. Both Mediamonkey programs are free versions. I want to be able to sync songs with ratings to the device and equally important to be able to sync updated ratings back to MMW via USB with the sd card removed from the phone if possible.
I have a large number of files (17,500 about 90 gb). I am using the latest builds of both programs and have tried USB syncs directly to my 128 gb micro sd card using a usb card reader vs USB sync through my Samsung Note 4 to the card leaving the card in the phone (I have not attempted WiFi syncs).
With both methods of USB syncs, my Windows 7 Professional HP desktop readily identifies the Note 4 and micro sd card or the USB connected 128 gb micro sd that is removed from the Note 4 and connected via a card reader.
I start by formatting the 128 gb card with the phone, then I open the MMA app and grant access to the card. I then either remove the card and connect to the desktop via a card reader or on alternate attempts connect the Note 4 via usb to the desktop. The devices are readily identified by Windows by either method.
I configure the portable device for
Autosync
Sync to default folders for Music and Playlists on the sd card
I sync 6 playlists
Sync back to computer is checked
Under device configuration I have checked “Use only the first Genre when multiple Genres exist”
Use only the first value when multiple Artists / Composers exist" for maximum device compatibility is checked
The sync successfully transfers about 90 gb of files (files seem to transfer successfully). I clear the cache on my Android media scanner app and allow media scanner to rescan the micro sd card. I then either wait for media scanner to finish scanning or simultaneously start MMA to begin scanning. On repeated attempts, I clear the cache on both media scanner and MMA.
Scanning seems to be endless with the MMA animated process circle whirling for more than 24 hours. The playlists are populated with the proper number of files within the first 4-6 hours. However, artwork and most importantly ratings do not appear (at least by 24 hours). It seems that artwork continues to appear as the processing grinds on and I have not allowed MMA to process the files beyond 36 hours.
Questions:
Does it make sense to allow MMA to process files beyond 36 hours?
Due to the large number of files is it possible that it would take days to finish scanning and hence to present artwork and ratings?
Is it problematic that no ratings appear 36 hours into the MMA processing or are the ratings added last to the track info and I need to be more patient?
Are there any other settings that I could try to successfully see ratings and equally important be able to sync changed / updated ratings back to MMW?
Does usb syncing with the sd card removed from the phone increase the odds of sync problems vs syncing with the card left in the phone?
I have considered reinstalling MMW in portable mode with all files on a 256 gb USB stick to use between my Windows 7 desktop and my Windows 7 laptop. Is that likely to present more issues than the current setup on one desktop as described above? Or should I have equal odds of success with portable mode?
Thanks for your help
