Are you sure, you have the playback rule set for the new build? For me it works as expected, and for our tester too. I have "Play selected files only" in Options - Player - Default Play Now action and "Default" play now action in Options - Player - Playback Rules for Music. When I click Play button for music album/genre/artist, even in popups (opened on click on genre), it adds the tracks to the NP list without clearing and starts playing.

Tracking says "fixed in 2196", but isn't in 2197

as MMV grew pretty stable and bug free I think it's time to mention some detail I encountered on a party (yes, tested MMV Party mode there)

No matter whether or not MMV's in party mode, those play buttons don't seem to satisfy any of my /Options/Player/Default Action - just clears my playlist every time.
