Well, I don't have a perfect solution .. but I'm using the iOS app
Evermusic, which gives me some features.
I sync MM5 with my iPhone (so far, so good). That music (+playlists, etc) shows up in Evermusic in my iPod library. So now I can play, shuffle, etc. Of course, it is a one-way synch whereby MM5 will not have any idea what is played in my iPhone nor can I make any changes on my iPhone that will percolate back up to MM5.
