Agree, this would be a big improvement.

I've been checking out MM5 as releases come out to see when I fully want to make the switch from MM4, and it's been pretty stable lately, but this is one of the big things preventing me from fully switching. Would definitely be nice to have this be added at some point.

I came here to add my "vote" for this. I updated to V5 some time back and was disappointed that this was not available. I went back to V4 because of this partially. I updated to V2024 yesterday hoping that it would now be possible for the same reasons previously noted by others in this thread.
The detail in the bug/feature request showed that the target was for V5.2 to have this implemented. Does V2024 equate to V5.1?
In any case, I will say I am liking V2024 and will stick with it this time. :)
Thanks for your attention and looking forward to seeing this brought back

Buck

Yes you can do that, but it's not helpful for what we're trying to do.

The use-case is for people who are selecting and grouping music based on several criteria (e.g. Artists, Genres, release date, BPM's, etc...) to build a 'now playing' list see the playlist build up while we are doing it. Using the method you describe only allows us to view and edit the existing 'Now playing' list. There's no way to add music to it without moving to a different view (which removes visibility of the details 'Now playing' list in the process).

Placing the 'now playing' list to the side forces a narrow view in both the main area and/or the now playing list to accommodate having them both sit side-by-side, which means several useful columns aren't visible.

Having the music source and 'now playing' list on top of each other (i.e. a vertical layout, as it was in MediaMonkey 4) allows you to not only see all columns in your source list, but also all columns in your 'now playing' list.

I'm coping right now only because I'm in the fortunate position of having an ultrawide monitor, but it's super clumsy and most people don't have this luxury anyway.

Please bring this feature back!

Not what's requested, but perhaps of some use: https://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brow ... k-playing/

Hi there !

A small reminder on this feature that I'm waiting for many years now. Maybe the last chromium update make the changes easier to implement ?

Would love to see someone assigned to https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=18019

I did before (long long ago), but this is a good way to renew. I miss this feature too. Actually it is the only feature i still miss from Version 4. For the rest i am convinced ;-).

+1 , we are waiting this feature for some years now, and despite there are many threads about it, I don't see it assigned for version 5.1 :(

It's been a year since this post was updated, so I'd like to add my support in requesting this functionality. Thank you.

There is an option to allow this - Tools / Options / General - Allow Just One Instance of Media Monkey.
That won't work for this use-case. Besides creating an unnecessary resource hog by having multiple instances open, each instance of MM5 maintains its own 'Now Playing' list. So, if the intent is to have 2 instances open to allow you to see 'Now Playing' in one instance and your library in another, then it doesn't work like that - changes in one instance of MM5 are not reflected in the other.

Additionally, only the 'Now Playing' list from the most recently closed instance is preserved, so you can very easily lose your whole 'Now Playing' list if you close windows in the wrong order (and the order in which they are closed by Windows during a system restart/update is entirely random).

The best solution so far is to have 2 open tabs in the same instance as suggested in https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... 61#p482761, but it still means we haven't solved the problem of switching between 2 tabs to see the full view of what we're playing.

Hopefully the team can implement the enhancement in https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=18019 in v5.1 (or sooner!).
