I had this same issue and I found a solution. I guess I should say that Gemini found the solution. I had to go to services, right click on Media Monkey and choose preferences, click the logon tab, and change it to local account. Somehow it got my username with an unknown password inserted in there (I was never asked to enter a password)!

Thanks. Yes, that was probably what I was seeing.

MM doesn't store any password, if you typed password incorrectly, you must re-install the service (uninstall/install) or change it in Services -> MediaMonkeyService -> log on page.

The service is uninstalled fine in my case, the only case when it is just marked to delete is when it is opened in Services and thus is uninstalled once after you closes the services window, maybe this was your case?

Problem setting up MM as a service

by Barry4679 » Thu Feb 20, 2014 7:44 pm

I looks to me like MMW cannot correctly install itself as a service if you make an initial attempt specifying an incorrect password.

I had to go to the Microsoft Management Console and manually alter the logon password, as MMW doesn't seem to alter the stored password in Tools|Options|Library|MediaSharing when doing an "Install Service" following a an "Uninstall Service"

Is this likely to be causing the problem?
No, that wasn't it.

When I looked at the MediaMonkeyService via the Microsoft Management Console, and re-entered my password via Properties|LogOn it started working ok. ... I am very sure that I was supplying the correct password when installing the service via MMW

MMW bug?

ie. create the service and supply incorrect password.
Use MMW to UninstallService
The redo the InstallAsService step, this time with the correct password

May the UninstallService just deactivates the Service
and the InstallAsService only uses the supplied password on the 1st time through

??

Cannot start MM as a service

by Barry4679 » Tue Feb 18, 2014 9:17 pm

Hi,

I cannot start MM as a service.
I can install the service from the UI, but it won't start.
I tried running MMW as Admisnistrator.

The service has been installed. I can also see it in the Windows Services list. If I try to manually start it from there it gives "Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure"

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the service, and making sure that I provide the correct logon password for my pc.

I have a non-standard location for mm db

Is this likely to be causing the problem?

If no, where else can I look to see what the failure is?

MMW: 4.1.0.1692
