Another alternative, because we like them, is using Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and encode directly to 1.1.4, using MM's file monitor to watch the destination folder and pick up the new tracks.
I use EAC and encode to FLAC 1.1.4, then open the folder with MM, tag, and add to library on an offline storage box, then convert to MP3s to an online drive.
If tagging the 2.5.5.998 of a FLAC 1.1.4 file would cause any difficulties, I would want to stop right away. But from everything people are saying, it seems like 2.5.5.998 works fine tagging 1.1.4 files (minus album art, of course). Hope that's true!
