Try to use MM3.0 to Linked Image in File Tag which FLAC 1.1.4 Support It is not implemented correctly in DbPowerAmp and R7 Release of FLAC.

dbPowerAmp is OK but FLAC Support for it have some problems.

Are you saying that FLAC 1.1.4 (i.e. the released version)

by tbessie » Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:38 am

ITSELF has bugs, or that dbPowerAmp's use/implementation of it has errors?
Surely the FLAC developer wouldn't release a full version of FLAC 1.1.4 with errors like that, yes?

dbPowerAmp r12 and FLAC R7 Beta 1.1.4 http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/printthread.php?t=12302 do support Album art in FLAC and Do not work Correctly as some needed info is Missing/Not written by FLAC Beta 1.1.4 and also corrupts FLAC Album Art if Linked Image is used (FLAC 1.1.3+ Supports Linked Images in Tags). versions prior to FLAC R7 1.1.4 do not support Album art in FLAC Tag editing.

From All testes that we have made MM 2.5.5 and FLAC features included in it we have not found any more problems/bugs than the one fixed in 2.5.5.998 release. Album Art tagging is included/introduced in MM 3.0 and considering Beta till MM 3.0 release is out when we will have fix all possible problems/bugs relating to stable support for album art in FLAC.

I've been using R12 Reference to rip and haven't had any problems since 2.5.5.998, knock on wood.

Another alternative, because we like them, is using Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and encode directly to 1.1.4, using MM's file monitor to watch the destination folder and pick up the new tracks.
I use EAC and encode to FLAC 1.1.4, then open the folder with MM, tag, and add to library on an offline storage box, then convert to MP3s to an online drive.

If tagging the 2.5.5.998 of a FLAC 1.1.4 file would cause any difficulties, I would want to stop right away. But from everything people are saying, it seems like 2.5.5.998 works fine tagging 1.1.4 files (minus album art, of course). Hope that's true! :-)

You can rip with MM 2.5 to flac (1.1.2) and then run the scripts posted on hydrogen audio forums to re-encode to 1.1.4 flac.

Yes it takes a bit longer, but it is well worth it and you don't have to wait for mm 3.

Alternatively, and if your paranoid about your music, you might want to check out the secure ripper in dbpoweramp r12 REFERENCE. (the 'powerpack' and free versions are limited compared to the reference)

You can check out the trial for 20 some days. Also, you may want to install the beta codecs for the updated 1.1.4 flac with album art support.

FLAC encdoing errors and versions

I have Media Monkey Gold 2.54.978

MM 2.5x only supports flac 1.1.2, newer flac version is to be updated with MM 3.0 when released.

This post talks about
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15345

flac 1.1.4

These post talks about a glitch in MM FLAC encoding

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15400
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15124

See
… Until then, I uploaded http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/f_flac.dll that should fix the issue.

My guess is that this beta DLL is still flac 1.12. Can someone confirm this for me?

I am contemplating converting hundreds of CDS to FLAC and after reading this I think it would be prudent for me to wait for MM3

Can someone tell me the time frame for 3.0?

BTW, thanks, I like the monkey. Other than this, the only other glitch I have seen is that sometimes Dialog Boxes do not come to the foreground

Steps to reproduce
1) insert a CD
2) MM Tools, Get Album Info (do this before CD stops spinning in drive

If drive is still spinning the dialog box saying FREEDB info is not available sometimes does not show. An ALT – Tab brings it up

Files that are already messed up will require re-encoding flac to flac unfortunately. You won't lose any metadata or tags by re-encoding flac to flac with mm tho.
So I had MM reencode to 1.1.2 (or perhaps it was 1.1.3? 2.5.5.998 appears to have encoded to 1.1.3, because some of the files were showing 1.1.3, my original encoding).

In any case, now I'm running that batch script to reencode everything into 1.1.4, and I noticed that quite a few files (several hundred out of 4500 processed so far) have "failed" (that is, flac.exe -t returns an error code).

Any idea why this might happen? I can look on the FLAC forums, but curious if you've seen what causes this.

Does that last post still apply, Peke?

After 2.5.5.998, is that f_flac.dll still one I should replace the one in MM with? Or does the 2.5.5.998 f_flac.dll fix the problem?

I would Like to thank Teknojnky for supplying detaild info how to reproduce bug.

For Quick fixes in MM 2.5.5 use my beta fix [link removed fix included in 2.5.5.998] (or atleast untill we make it official) as there is indeed bug in FLAC, as noted that bug do not exists in MM 3.0 due to MM 3.0 album art support and slightly different calculation and handling of FLAC Tagging to support multiple ALBUM ARTS inside FLAC.

Note: This is fix for 2.5.x only

2.5.x = no embedded flac album art
3.x = embedded flac album art
Thanks!
