I have now found the following solution for myself, which seems to work after several dozen re-tagged albums:
1. album selected on the left - press EINFG and re-import.
2. make all changes in the titles and album name. - Press EINFG and reread.

That's good enough for me if it continues to work as well as it has. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the support.
My jazz collection currently has 122,330 titles. About 85% are fully tagged.

I will go through each step individually these days, as you suggested, and try to figure out at what point an "unlinked entry" is created.

Thanks.

If you are doing all of the changes within MM5, there should not be any unlinked files created. You mention a few thousand albums, how many actual tracks is that?

Still, there should not be any need to delete your data base, a simple rescan should find and update all files and tags.

Since there are soooo many ways to do things in MM5, it is very hard to guess what might be causing your issue.

If you could somehow identify exactly which operation creates even one single unlinked file, it would help to track down what is going on.

This would require some methodical checking after each operation on your part.

Directory renaming, tagging and MM

Maybe someone can help me with the following problem.

I have several thousand albums in mp3 form on D:/MP3. These used to be managed via an Access database and some are not tagged. Access is no longer used for various reasons.
If I now access an untagged album in MM in the original directory structure and set both the taggs but also change the directory name, I then do a re-record in MM and a complete update of the database in MM.
Unfortunately it happens then in the course of the time that I have dead links in MM. If I copy such a link into the Explorer, it finds the MP3 and can play it.
I then delete the database in MM5 and perform the time consuming process of a complete rebuild. Then there are no more dead links and everything is fine until the next tagging and renaming.

Is there any solution or tips for my problem.

The original format of my untagged directories is: barcode number/. After tagging then the directory is barcode-number_artist_album_name/ and there are all tagged MP3 files.

Thanks
Andreas
