I wonder whether deleting the library and doing a re-scan would help? Or are the images stored in a separate DB?
I am not sure, brief analyze showed original artwork can't be read/served to MM renterer.
You can
rename MM5.DB to 1MM5.DB and MM will create new DB. then scan folders again. If it proves no help problem is elsewhere. Do you have hidden files show enabled?

Well, for files where the artwork is listed as stored in the folder, then copying just the file results in no artwork. But if I pick a file which has the artwork stored in the tag, then the artwork shows correctly for the file in the new folder. But there is no artwork showing in the gridview for that file in its original location.
And just to reiterate, as I showed in my first post, if I then select that track or the album itself, the artwork does show in the selected pane.
That sound like that many many files have linked AA as first image and it is non accessible or corrupted, so MM show default no AA image while selected panel and properties read AA from tags.
I am following ticket and curious to see what is the root cause and how that can improve MM.
