Last couple of versions requires Admin rights [#16580]
During the last couple of versions I have been requested for admin rights for install. This is new as I know because I do not have admin rights to this work computer .. i installed portable in the past but can't even get that far. Thoughts

Re: Last couple of versions requires Admin rights
I think it could be because of firewall rules.
There was a silent failure to write them after install: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view ... 580#c57933 prior to build 2248
And if you cancelled the elevator then MM5 tries to write them again upon next start. This used to be in MM4 too.
But seeing the code in MM4 the firewall rules were not written in case of portable version at all.
In MM5 we intentionally added this also for Portable version because of https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15176
Just thinking about it we could probably adjust this slightly and in case of portable version does not show the elevator on every startup (when cancelled), but only once and if user cancels it then never show it again.
EDIT: Fixed in 2252 as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view ... 580#c58021

Hi, please submit a ticket with attached debug log to see more. Thanks!
Re: Last couple of versions requires Admin rights [#16580]
I am not sure that you understand what he is reporting.
I think that he is just saying that MM5 requires admin rights during install, which means that he can't install MM5 on PCs where he has no admin rights. ... I see this also
You seem to be thinking that he is saying that MM5 requires admin rights at runtime.
Maybe have an install toggle option for situations where have no admin rights?
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

Re: Last couple of versions requires Admin rights [#16580]
Ah, ok, so there have been really a misunderstanding then.
I misread it, sorry.
Do you remember (or could you find) the last version for which the installer does not require the admin rights-- to have a clue wich change could cause this?
EDIT: For me even one year old installer ( MediaMonkey_5.0.0.2152_Debug.exe ) requires admin rights to install, so I guess that it was rather a Windows 10 update that could change this?

Perhaps because the old versions were portable only, it was allowed?
Isn't it standard that software installs request Admin approval?

2246 is the last version I could install. We haven't done any windows updates on this box for many months. very controlled by the company.Ludek wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 7:42 am

Hi,
Can you install MM5 on some other PC as Portable and then Copy files to Existing MM5 installation on problematic PC (without portable folder)?

Re: Last couple of versions requires Admin rights [#16580]
Hi,
You should be able to use process explorer to log what MM install tries. I guess that after end of Install it checks if Registry is OK. It should show you what MM accessed and then we can see if there is any change in installation script we missed. As Ludek said there was no changes in past few versions, but there is always a small chance of regression.

Re: Last couple of versions requires Admin rights [#16580]
Hi,
the only change that could "somehow" influence this between 2246 and 2247 is changing the application icon.
The first change of the icon was two days after 2246 : http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view. ... 061#c57880
But I still don't understand how your system is configured that 2246 install does not require admin rights for you, for me it is the first thing that it asks me for (once I run the installer).
At which point of installing 2247 it requires the admin rights for you, is it before copying the files, after copying or on the first launch of MM5? Could you attach a screengrab?
