Problems with tabs in the menu bar [#16223]

Post by Barry4679 »

#1. I cannot drag the MM5 Window to a new position, once I have a few tabs open ... ie. there is no drag hot-spot

#2. The only tab that can be closed, without triggering the right-click context menu, is the right most tab ... ie. that is the only tag which displays the hover "x" close control

I reported the following three items elsewhere, but you did not reply.

#3. Could you add the following options to a tab's contextual men: "Close other tabs" ... "Close tabs to the right" .... as found in Chrome Browser tabs

#4. If I control click something, to request that you open the item in a new tab, why do you also navigate me to that tab? ... That is not the convention (eg. Chrome Browser) ... the conventional action is better ... eg. I am in the Artist node, and am intending to open multiple tabs, but you keep dragging me away

#5. if I click the "+" control, to open a new tab, why do you replicate the contents of a tab that already have open? ... again this is not the conventional action ... and it is unhelpful when the last tab is a web location, and you may take multiple minutes to re-import the dictionary of contents, which is time wasted
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

Hi,
1. you are right added as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=16223

2. Can be fixed by installing "tabCloseButtonsVisible.mmip" from sample scripts folder

3,4,5 I agree on them, but will update after more testing and defining best (based on my way of thinking) approach, so we can perfect behavior (comments/suggestions would be welcome then)

Close controls tabs are already in vanilla version of MM5. They are available during mouse hover, which is a good compromise between anyone who finds them ugly|distracting, and those people who find MM5 tabs useful and want them to be as easy to use as they are in other standard s/w products. ... This is good.

But MM5 support for these close controls is partially broken IMO:
  • they are only available for the currently active tab
  • and they only become visible if you hover, in the tiny part of the tab where they are sitting in an invisible state ... you can see a tab close control in this illustration

They need to be available in all tabs, not just the current tab.
And the trigger hotspot should be extended to cover the whole tab.

I also see a new problem with tabs, to add to my original list.

#6 Tab drag and drop is not working properly. If I try to drag a tab, the cursor originally tells me that I am over a drop target, and that you are going to create a duplicate tab. ... If I release the mouse button, you don't do anything.

I have to keep dragging, and dragging. ... the screen flickers like a broken thing ... finally you change the cursor to show the drag&move cursor
