MM5 Portable Crashing at Launch on 2 of 4 PCs

Post by telecore »

I have been testing MM5 (portable) and have been getting this fatal error when I try to start MM5 at work:
(this happens on 2 PCs at work, running Windows 10 Pro), but at home it runs fine on 2 other PCs running Win10 Pro - any suggestions on how to get MM5 to start up?

Capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86643

Hi,
When you are at work try to rename/delete persistent.json file before you start MM.

I think that I probably sent about 20+ logs when the program crashed at work - the pop-up window upon crashing refers to 0x1B030000 if that helps - and I pasted the details in my initial posting;

I did try move the persistent.json file and it's backup out of the default folder but MM5 still crashed - going to leave shortly, so I can't really check this for a couple of days but I will test MM5 at home for the streaming/HEOS issue - thanks

the log process they are talking about is at viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86643 as noted before. Do section 4. this creates a more complete log than the basic logs created during a run.

Yes, the standard debug log would be useful -- as even if we got all your crash logs they indicated just "External exception 80000003 in libcef.dll" -- which has zero information for us unfortunatelly.

BTW: Couldn't it be somehow caused by installing MM portable to a location where you haven't enough write-rights ? e.g. like installing portable version to /Program Files/ or something like that?
Try to install it to another folder/drive to see whether it helps?

Hi,
Also if you right click on MM installation folder -> Properties -> Security do you see {Sxxxxxxxxxx-xx-x-xx-xx-x-} or actual usernames? If it is {s-xxx-xxx--x-xx-x-x-} then do the following: Click on Advanced -> Owner -> change Type "Everyone" -> OK -> Make settings look like attached image and press OK, it should give enough rights on whatever PC you connect it.

Hi,
In Addition to above and creating MM debug logs please try following to see what exact process/app invoked Exception error in MM:
1. Don't click the message away, run ProcessExplorer, use the Process Explorer CrossHair from toolbar
Image

2. move it to the Error message. This will highlight the program which causes the error message

3. Now look which tool it is, make screenshot and if possible try to uninstall it to see if it was the cause of the exception.
