Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars [#18075]
I was renaming a folder from "Donal Lunny - Coolfin" to "Dónal Lunny - Coolfin" and the stars changed to two stars for every track in the folder.
MMW 5.0.1.2418
This a pretty big bug for a guy with thousands of foreign artists in my library. (diacriticals are important to people, even the though Americans don't seem to give a rat's ass)

" ... don't seem to give a rat's ass" ... really ... i think you need to adjust your communication skills as this American cares.

How exactly did you rename? Did the files already have Ratings or no Rating?
I can't reproduce by renaming the folder in the Location node.

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
The files had a variety of stars. This happened to two folders before I stopped. One did not accept the rename, but still switched every track to two stars. Both show all two stars from the folder tree of the left pane.
I just grabbed my Samsung tablet to restore the stars and did a global search for Dónal Lunny to show both folder in the center pane. The stars show up correctly in the center pane. I went back to the folder tree in the left pane and it still shows two stars. I can put tabs up for the folder tree and the search pane and toggling back and forth, the stars are different, two stars in the folder (left) pane and correct stars in the search pane. This is weird.
My apologies for stereotyping Americans. My frustration with MM5 got to me even though of all the software I own, MM support is light years beyond everybody else.

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
I just closed MM5.0.1.2418 and loaded the debug version. I still see different two stars on all the tracks in the folder tree and the proper stars in the search results for the same tracks.

Are you referring to Folders node in Media Tree? This node reads from the files which may not have been updated after you Synced Ratings from MMA > MM5. Select the files with the correct Rating values and use Tools > Edit Tags > Update Tags to save the correct Rating values to the files themselves?

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
Never going to be able to try your suggestion because I deleted the folder from the MMW database and reloaded it while I was trying to find a way to correct the issue on my own.
The ratings were different in the Folder node of the Media Tree because every track changed to 2 stars when I used alt+ASCII to add a diacritical to the letter O (alt+162) in Dónal Lunny's name in the Folder node of the Media Tree. MMA was not involved in the activity.

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
Ummm.
There is no "Tools > Edit Tags > Synchronize Tags" in MMW 5.0.1.2418

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
Right, it was renamed toUmmm.
There is no "Tools > Edit Tags > Synchronize Tags" in MMW 5.0.1.2418
Tools > Edit tags > Update tags (Ctrl + S)
Otherwise you should see the DB /Tag mimatches under the
Music > Files to Edit > DB / Tag mismatches node
It will highlight the fields that are mismatched (DB vs Tag).
As for the changing into two stars, couldn't it be done by a hotkey accidentally?
If you go to Options > Hotkeys
Do you see a "Rating selected file(s)...." action assigned to a hotkey ?
But in that case the hotkey would update the rating both in the tag and DB, so I am not sure what could change the rating just in the file tag.
Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
Ctrl+Alt+2 is not close enough to Alt+162 that I would have made that mistake on two albums. This is a bug.
Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
If you can reproduce this, please capture it in a debug log (step 4b) as I can't reproduce this: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86643 Attach the log to a Support Ticket and a developer will analyze why this happens in your setup.

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
I reproduced it and captured a log. Where do I send the log file?
I noticed that as I held down the Alt key and typed the 1, the 6, & the 2. The stars for all the tracks went first to 1, then 1-1/2, then 2.

You attached it to a Support Ticket:
from: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=866437. Attach the log file to a Support Ticket. If the file is too large ( > 2MB) then upload the file to a free file hosting service (DropBox, RapidShare, FileDropper, MediaFire, ...) and share just the link to the file.

Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
I also have screen shots of how the folder view and the Recently added view show different ratings.
Re: Reanme folder in left panel, all tracks change to two stars
That one was explained already.
Folders reads File tags (which were unchanged), whereas Recently Added is reading from the Database (which has the changed values). So, the bug updates the database values, but doesn't actually write the changes to file.
