Need to create a seperate library

Post by lennie paz »

I don't know if this is possible, but I need to create a separate library of how my music is organized. Right now, my music is organized by the artist, and inside the artist folder, are the albums by that artist. In my car, I have a unit called a MultiMediaLinQ , made by a company VAIS. It allows you to install an HDD to the unit and fill it with music. The unit will only recognize audio files in the first folder, not subfolders. So basically, I need MM to create folders of the artist and then list all the music by that artist inside that artist folder. My goal is to not screw up my original library though. Is this possible to do?

You don't need to create separate library, just change the hierarchy of your files/folders. You can do that easily via Tools > Auto-organize.

Just make sure you know what you're doing before you make any changes!

But won't that screw up my current library?

Like I said, it will just change the folders where your tracks are saved on the hard drive.

So basically, it will change the way my old folders were organized, right? I'm trying to avoid that if at all possible.

So you want to duplicate your whole music collection, but with a new folder structure?

You can use Tools > Auto-Organize Files and select Copy instead of Move.
