MediaMonkey won't play FLAC

Post by ElToro1966 »

I've got MediaMonkey running on several Win7 clients. They connect to a Serviio 0.6.2 mediaserver running on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

The clients connect to the server without any problems and they play MP3-files without a hitch. However, it is impossible to play FLAC-files. :-? My whole music collection consists of FLAC files, so the problem is a real showstopper. Any suggestions?

Check your input plug-ins and make sure FLAC Format plug-in is listed

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

The input plug-ins include the FLAC Format Plug-in v.1.2.1.0, f_flac_codec.dll. So that should be OK, right? Any other possible reasons for the fault?

In order to try to resolve the problem, I configured Serviio to deliver transcoded LCPM to MediaMonkey instead of FLAC.Turned on debug-mode on the Serviio mediaserver and the feedback, when I try to play a FLAC file transcoded to LCPM in MediaMonkey, is as follows:

Code: Select all

2012-06-13 22:22:43,081 WARN [ResourceTransportRequestHandler] Requested DLNA media format profile flac is not supported, using original profile of the media
2012-06-13 22:22:43,081 WARN [ResourceTransportRequestHandler] Error while processing resource, sending back 404 error. Message: The request did not provide required version of the resource
2012-06-13 22:22:43,253 WARN [ContentDirectory] Object with id http://192.168.0.109:8895/resource/82571/MEDIA_ITEM/FLAC*0 doesn't exist
Has MediaMonkey cached the previous state (FLAC)? Or is something else wrong? Argh...

BTW: Is MediaMonkey fully UPnP compliant?

You may want to create a debug log (step 4b) capturing this failure and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69

Do you mean won't play or won't strem FLAC? I think you mean the latter.

I have been using Twonky Manager/server, which will stream FLAC fine to uPnP/DLNA devices, but does not support playing of FLAC on the PC on which it is installed.
For that reason, today I upgraded my MediaMonkey, which plays FLAC fine on the PC on which it is installed, but will not stream FLAC to a DLNA device (exactly the reverse of Twonky).
On doing some digging, I find that Media Monkey does not support FLAC streaming to shared uPnP/DLNA devices..
Are there any plans to change this?
What is the reason for this restriction?
