How to Play songs from Phone with mma and mm 4beta

When my phone (samsung G S3) is connected to my computer by usb, shouldn't i be able to play my songs through MM?

The tree node shows the phone. Under Music it shows all the tracks. So ... shouldn't I be able to play them on my computer as just another storage device? If so what could be wrong with my settings to keep this from happening? If not then why not?

Sam... uses code to format to its own music fomat for use on phone and mm doesnt know that format to convert back.??

Strange -- I hadn't noticed this before. I don't really have a need to play music from my phone on my computer. But sure enough, when I try to do it MMW responds the same way it does when you try to play music from the library -- turn the library item grey and try the next song in Now Playing, with the same result. So I tried to do a Send To --> Folder (Copy) of a song from the phone to my hard drive, and it was not successful (with no error response). Not what I expected, but I don't know why.

The reason I wanted to try it was that I am away from my office and nas drives (have to figure how to connect to nas drive across internet) and wanted to listen to 28 gig music from phone. Laptop has much better speakers.

<sigh> guess i will have to copy music from phone to laptop .. how lowtech

Got it. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is why you can't do that. I would expect MMW to read the music on the phone as if it were a connected drive.

I haven't tried, but maybe you can switch the device to MSC/USB Mass and it will work.

I just tried and Android MTP failed to play the files.

After rebooting both devices (pc reboots each day but not phone) I find that IF i set the phone as a server I can access the media. At least through wifi (haven't tried with usb yet). The phone does show as a server in MM. Now just have to figure out the other problems.

Using MMA 126, if i connect MMW (current beta) to iPod I can go into Music and play the file from the iPod. If i try the same thing with MMA it doesn't work.

This *should* work.
