Clearing the playlist doesn't work as expected

On other applications I have used, clearing the playlist also stops the track which is currently playing. Not on MMA.
I have an album playing. I am looking at the playlist as the album plays.
I long press a track, press the select_all icon, and then press the delete icon.

The playlist is deleted, but the current track continues playing.

There is now no way to stop the track from playing (is there?):
* no access to the Now Playing screen
* no entry for MMA in the android notification shade

I have to remember to pause the track before clearing the playlist.
Or wait for it to end.
Or turn the volume down
Or queue up another track, then pause before re-clearing the playlist.
