Make it easier to queue a whole album from UPnP [Req #10893]

Post by Barry4679 »

I can queue a whole album when playing music, which is stored on the tablet, via a long press on the album, and then using the popup menu at the bottom, which gives access to the Play symbol with the clock in it.

Why isn't this available via UPnP? There is no popup menu via a long press on an album for UPnP. I have to tap on the album, and then long press on one of the tracks, which brings up the pop up menu, but I have to remember to first press the Select All icon, otherwise I just get the one track.

Also I have to be careful during the execution of the long press on one of the tracks, other the album kills off what is currently playing, wipes out the queue, and replaces it with this new selection.

Also I am disappointed that there isn't an add to the queue (Play_with_a_clock icon) button alongside the Random_Play icon, up on the album's title bar (ie when its tracks are listed). If there wasn't room for two icons, could there be a config option to pick which button would be displayed, ie pick from from random play, play immediate wiping out the queue, or add to the queue?
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

I think this is related to the fact that the "container" has not yet been populated: the UPnP query only requests the immediate entries that you see displayed (album names, playlist names) but not the contents. I agree, it should allow selection of one or more containers and then retrieve the contents when the Play button is pressed; but that was deliberately disallowed when the selectable-containers feature was implemented. I'd point you to the Mantis entry if I knew how to find it again.

Another possibility, in addition to user-selectable default action, would be a long-press on Play that dropped down a box with all three icons in it.

Oh, wait. That would be cumbersome. Forget it; it'll never make it past the UI nazi.

Thanks. That Mantis issue is marked as closed, even though the 2nd part of the issue wasn't addressed; ie. no UPnP long press facility on albums.

It remains an issue for me. Playing whole albums via UPnP is cumbersome with MMA. I have to browse to:
* browse to an album
* drill down into the album, to see all its tracks
* then long press one of the tracks, to enable the Select All widget, and the Play (in track order) widgets (ie. Play All, or Add to Queue)
* press the Select All widget
* then press the Play widget

Other products allow me to collapse this to just:
* browse to an album
* long press it
* press the appropriate Play widget

OK, so it is only two more steps, but it is a pain.

If I stumble the "long press on one of the tracks" steps, it interrupts what is currently playing, wipes out the queue, and replaces it with the track I accidentally tapped, and those album tracks following it. For me, this elevates it from a pain to a major pain, and is the reason that while I currently test MMA, but don't actually use it.

Hopefully it is still an issue that may be pursued:

Hi Barry,

It's not quite so cumbersome--you can:
* browse to an album
* drill down into the album, to see all its tracks
* click the first track
--> all tracks then play

That said #10893 is still open, but not for MMA 1.0.4.

Hi Rusty,

That's ok if the current queue is empty or exhausted. I like to queue things up so that the music keeping chugging. That technique abruptly terminates the current track, and cancels the remainder of the current album, which is a sure fire mood killer.

It would be ok if MMA was as configurable as MMW, ie.
* config option to toggle between clear queue and append to queue
* config option to toggle between play now and queue
